Men for Others (who have not been shot).

Well, you're within a few blocks of me then too. That's not even quite a block from me. Drove past earlier today. Twice, in fact. (About 12:30 and about 2:30.) Never heard a thing.

^That one has truly unsettled me. An acquaintance of my father's was killed a number of years ago under cosmetically similar circumstances but the murderer was never caught. Not that it helps much, but at least he was an older fellow and not a younger student just starting out her life. The victims families have my sincere sympathy and I am really glad they seem to have caught the fellow who did it before he can do it again. As you say, I hope they throw away the key.

Sounds like SLMPD may have caught a true homicidal sociopath who liked executing women and coldly showed no regrets to his actions. Maybe there are more victims they can tie to this monster? The only way I think he avoids the death penalty is if he is found valuable for study by law enforcement psychologists (behavioral scientists) to help them identify more patterns in how monsters behave, so they can better catch the next ones. In a sense, I'm glad this monster was caught while he was still young; same time, what a waste all around. Lord have mercy.

Not sure if this is the right spot for this but wanted to get some feedback. Does anyone else think the new(ish) surveillance cameras going up everywhere look ridiculous (i.e. the constant red and blue blinking likea cop car)? Driving up Gravois towards Bevo, where almost every other light pool has one, looks like the aftermath of a shootout just occurred and 20 cops cars are on the street. Does this send the right message for neighbors, visitors and potential investors/small business owners?
What is the idea behind having them constantly blink? I guess the thought is it will prevent crime. But aren't the cameras there to catch crime and perhaps being a little more low key about would reap some benefits? Also is there any data/reporting how how useful these (expensive) things are?
Rant over.

^agree. Seems like deterrence is important and the more conspicuous they are the more crime they deter at a particular location. It is preferrable to have a crime not occur in the first place rather than have it occur and be able to catch the criminal with some secret camera.
This. If the price for reduced crime is having to put up with something that is aesthetically displeasing, it's a good tradeoff. I'd rather have ugly surveillance cameras with annoying flashing lights and lower crime than visually discreet cameras and higher crime.kipfilet wrote: ↑Aug 30, 2021^agree. Not a knock on the idea itself, but since the program also includes not getting shot as a condition for the monthly payment, couldn't this make people who are in the program even bigger targets to opposing neighborhood cliques? I get that the idea is to try and help those who are most at risk make better decisions as to where they hang out and with who... just thinking there may be some unintended consequences they might want to think through and improve upon.chris fuller wrote: ↑Aug 31, 2021SF Will Begin Paying People to Not Shoot Other People

I have so many questions. There’s a music hall in St. Peters??? More specifically… 50 Cent performed at a music hall in St. Peters???
I mean I get that it’s just a 10 minute drive from the other side of the river where he probably has a bunch of fans, but still… I had to do a double take when I saw this headline.

^ Why wouldn't St. Peters have any music venues? Chesterfield has 10,000 fewer people and even less population growth and has more than one large amphitheater...
The 50 Cent thing is a little surprise, but less of a surprise when you consider St. Charles is getting less white.

I don’t think population size should determine whether or not a music venue (or any other attraction) gets built in a certain area. Especially since our region has so many municipalities. Population size wasn’t the reason I was shocked. It was more so because St. Peters is a commuter town. You mention Chesterfield having less people, but at least Chesterfield is a destination area. Plenty of shops, restaurants, and of course TopGolf. I’m saying this as a St. Peters resident. I’ve lived here my entire life. It is BORING. Especially the St. Peters stretch of Highway 70. I guess props to them for trying to make it a little less boring by adding a music venue. I’m totally in favor of St. Charles County having music venues and other attractions. Although I personally think a better location would have been Streets of St. Charles instead of a sad strip mall in St. Peters.

From the pictures this looks more like a pool hall with a stage than anything else.
