Just curious... Do people live (long term stay) at the Red Roof Inn Plus at Hampton & 44?  The interviews on the news seemed to make it appear as if people live there.

Bad day yesterday for the area with the murder at Red Roof & near Arsenal & 44.
Those couple blocks with the fast food, gas station and parking lot hotels attract a mix of people at times. Not only is it car sewer slop that makes our city look like the stroad fast food meme image, it is a problem area for activity. I would guess many people stay for weeks at a time. The Forest Park Hotel (old holiday inn) catches a lot of out of towners attention as a place to stay bc they assume it is close to the attractions and I have to tell them it’s not a great spot to stay. Very misleading with that name

Since there’s an abandoned gas station and a couple empty warehouses/offices and the old residential school will get redeveloped, I am hoping this whole area just gets overhauled soon. I would much prefer these areas get redeveloped than the tear downs of brick shotguns that are happening in the hill (please somebody make it a protected historic district)

With McBride planning another new housing development on Wilson, I could see them eventually buying the Red Roof and building more there. The old Holiday Inn wouldn’t be much of a loss if closed and torn down.

1 homicide in the first week of March

YTD: 15
Last year through March: 22

The difference for the year will really be April and May

9 and 20 those two months before heading into the the summer.   If we head into June with let’s say 40 instead of 54, good shot for a 105-115 year

Last year June through Dec was 75

Is that the gang related one? If so, video doorbell footage of the guy getting gunned down by the resident rushing out with a rifle is making its way around Reddit at the moment.

Came pretty close to multiple last night based on reporting. Police department response regarding the "take overs" is assertive. Going to be an interesting summer for teen take overs versus State police department.

I’ve seen a few TikToks of people acting a fool from last night. One by Bevo Mill where I would have assumed there wouldn’t be much of that sort of behavior. Another in Kirkwood of a takeover there. A shootout near Energizer Park a block or two near Police HQ. For all of STL’s progress on crime, this is a disappointing regression.

Maybe suspend driving until drivers learn to behave. Or put up gates.

Rode my bike through downtown Saturday night. Many groups of pretty young people just walking around and partying. Witnessed the aftermath of a girl who I believe was either shot or hit by a car on Market next to the Hilton. Saw another couple street racers run into each other then flee the scene on the 1400 block of Market. Absolutely chaotic vibes down there, I wasn't surprised to hear that there was so many shootings downtown that night.

Takeover culture definitely needs to be cracked down on, the harm this causes to the primarily working class people in the city is bad. It’s like STLMPD wasn’t prepared for Saturday night. State board track record isn’t starting off great.

They are already blaming the city for not giving them enough resources. The goalposts will always move

They’ll just use this as another reason to ask for unlimited money instead of forming a task force with MSHP and County Police to actually work together and use resources to get the takeover crowd off the streets like what Cincinnati and other cities have done.

Q: Say the City joins the County as its newest municipality... Would that in any way change State involvement in City police operations? For example, say the City's STL Metropolitan Police merges with the County Brownies. Could that eliminate the Jefferson City oversight?

Hard to say on the police. The city could contract for polling services form the county effecting a merger, though no telling with the state control of the SLMPD now whether the city is allowed to do that. If done via a Board of Freeholders proposal, I think that would up end the state's law since the Board of F operates under the constitution, though probably a legal battle would ensue as to whether the new merged PD is the SLMPD that the state law says the state has control over.

It would have to be resolved before ever going to a vote. I hope the state would drop the state takeover if SLMPD came under St. Louis County PD. The electorate and leaders of the police force district would be heavily moderated politically. The odds of forming strong anti-police coalition will be much less. Their concern is neutralized.

No merger. SLMPD could maybe disband (officers hired at county PD) and STL city or state board contracts with county pd for police like wildwood and Jennings do today.

They can do their best but won’t deny that this photo of a man on 314 day is entertaining as helllllllll. It goes “hard” or is “fire” as the kids say. I want it printed on a shirt.
