Significant worker presence and concrete pouring going on today at the Sandcrawler site

I actually noticed that too when driving by and tried to get a capture of the activity. Promising!
Does anyone know what’s going on? There doesn’t appear to be any permits. I hope they’re not just working on the garage…

I'll be over that way after lunch. Will try to snag another picture or 2, see what I can see.

Update: NOT Sandcrawler work being done at the Sandcrawler site.
I drove through the area maybe an hour ago, saw a worker, and asked what's up. Response was that they are working at that site right now, as well as on part of the grain silo site, because it is now a forward staging area for the Neuroscience Building's garage.
I asked about the Sandcrawler itself. The worker told me that only routine maintenance of the site was taking place (signage, etc.), and that all the workers there surely want the site to be under development right now so they could get more work hours. They're certainly ready to get back to work on it. That stated, they have no knowledge of any near-term restart of the Sandcrawler site.

^I'm glad to hear that they're facing down the trouble. They sound pretty bullish, all considered. Seeing the figures from the Greitens cuts in print again is . . . disheartening. Sometimes I swear the state is trying to strangle us.

Agreed. It's not a question of "if". There is no doubt the state is actively doing everything it can to weaken the St. Louis metro area all it can.Suds wrote: ↑Mar 20, 2022The state is trying to strangle us.symphonicpoet wrote: ↑Mar 20, 2022^I'm glad to hear that they're facing down the trouble. Did you see the article in the Business Journal about the PAC created by the big names: Taylor, Kemper and McDonnell? Gone Corporate alerted me to this a while back.
From the article:
“The emergence of the new PAC comes amid gripes that St. Louis, which drives Missouri's gross domestic product, isn't being served by Republican leadership in state capital Jefferson City. The state, meanwhile, sees relatively slow growth. And St. Louis is barely growing and recently dropped to the 21st largest U.S. metro.
It also follows efforts by Taylor and others to remake of St. Louis' economic development efforts, via the creation last year of Greater St. Louis Inc.”

The good news is, there’s a push to bring some of that funding back to MTC. Whether or not the state follows along remains to be seen. Parson wants to boost funding by $1 million (to a paltry $4 million), business groups want to see much of the $95 million here put into the MTC.

Nice shot in the arm for Cortex:

The Federal Government in the final Covid Bill gave every state at least $60M for entrepreneurial initiatives. MTC should get the lion's share of this to manage. A recent study by TEConomy Partners was done to provide direction. "Catalyzing Innovation: Strategies for Missouri to Drive Innovation & Entrepreneurship" - https://www.missouritechnology.com/statewide-initiative . I believe they are expecting to be able to start spending the money in July of this year. It should go a long way towards supporting our early stage startup community across the state that was ripped away by Greitens.
Demo Alert: 4046 Laclede, demo permit application submitted, neighboring buildings have the same owner. It's within the Cortex 353, so no CRO/Preservation Board review

If only there were seas of parking lots within the CORTEX boundaries that could be built upon first. It's too bad they've already fully built out the district and need to tear down more buildings to keep pace with demand.

Can anyone confirm that CORTEX has eminent domain power? I sounds like it, though I don't know if this has been changed later.
https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/c ... ?ord=66985Section 4: It is found, determined and declared that there exists a necessity for the granting of the power of eminent domain to the Developer, that the granting of such power of eminent domain is in the public interest and serves the public purposes expressed Ordinance No. 66847, and Chapter 353, R.S.Mo. 2000, and that there is hereby granted to the Developer a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity authorizing and empowering it to acquire by eminent domain or otherwise, in its name, or in the name of and on behalf of the City, all or part of the real property, or any interest therein, in the Redevelopment Area, provided, however, that the power of eminent domain shall only be exercised as provided in the Development Plan. The Developer shall have the authority and power of eminent domain as set forth in Section 353.130, R.S.Mo. 2000, as amended and as provided for in the Development Plan.
I goofed on the image, 4046 is the house on the right, not the center.quincunx wrote: ↑Apr 09, 2022Demo Alert: 4046 Laclede, demo permit application submitted, neighboring buildings have the same owner. It's within the Cortex 353, so no CRO/Preservation Board review4046 Laclede.png
As I walked by the Sandcrawler site yesterday, I noticed these bits laying in the site. Am I off base in thinking these are potentially crane pieces? I don't remember seeing these here anytime I walked by previously.
