City Foundry STL to add retail shop featuring local, women-owned brands
https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... ative.html
Procure by The Women’s Creative, to be located across from City Foundry's Food Hall, will feature a curated selection of items including skincare, beauty, lifestyle, apparel, accessories and home goods, emphasizing wellness and self-care, officials said.

Starting in mid-February, Procure will be open from Wednesday through Sunday for in-person shopping as well as gatherings in its lounge, officials said. The boutique initially will feature more than 20 brands with others to be added to an online store slated to open later this spring.

Like, a place for gamers to go and play with groups of friends? I assume that's the model?

I think something like that would work extremely well at Foundry. My god, extremely well.

You'd have SLU gamers that would probably use this, tech workers in the immediate area that would use this, and though I'm not a "gamer" I know of several people in St. Louis that have wanted something like this for a while.

The ability to run into the food hall for a quick bite before, after, or between games has to carry some serious appeal, too.

Not sure if this was ever posted but from looking at the floor plans for the apartment building, the break down of the units is...
  • Studios: 85
  • One Bedrooms: 161
  • Two Bedrooms: 16
  • Three Bedrooms: 8

No news on it yet. UrbanSTL would likely be one of the first places you would hear about it if anything came out.

I seem to recall some sort of GRG grant-related funding/application news a couple months ago, but don't remember the details. I remember reading it somewhere on this forum.

I believe the trestle into the Foundry will be on their dime and not GRG's, which makes sense, and I'm not sure on timing.  But GRG is moving ahead with the extension of the small Brickline stub by the Cortex station to continue over Vandeventer (utilizing the Metrolink bridge adjacent to the trestle) and then ending by the South Grand station.

I'm willing to bet that the trestle goes at the same time or similar given the location of GRGs offices. Right on the spur where the trestle is to connect to the walkway between their office and the Alamo Drafthouse. It was a main decision on where they wanted their office located within the development. They wanted a direct connection to the future trail.

👏👏👏 Here's hoping that they use that whole lot.  "will wrap around the Fire Station at the corner of Forest Park and Vandeventer."

As SLU/Cortex East starts to build out, have there been any considerations for Vandeventer streetscape improvements? It's less than a mile between these developments and Rehab/Chroma, but damn that's a miserable pedestrian experience.

Side note: is anything in the old JJs? I know college bars are basically illegal these days but would be nice to reclaim that space for young people to have some fun once again.

While other stores are in full snow storm bread, milk and egg panic buying long lines: Fresh Thyme was busier but had plenty of stock compared the the Arsenal Schnucks.

Also remember the covered parking will be nice if we actually get the forecast snow.

Got lunch at the Foundry today and saw Steve Smith showing a group of people around along S Spring Ave and pointing down Clark Ave. Could be nothing but I wonder if they have plans to expand the Foundry to the east? Some of those industrial buildings along Clark are a bit of an eyesore so that would be great for the area

Also I just realized that Clark Ave lines up with the Clark St downtown so a long time ago that must’ve been one long continuous road. Pretty wild

The warehouse on the south side of Clark east of spring is owned by the VP and is where they keep their floats/operations. I’ve heard that Steve Smith and his group are already in talks about relocating the VP in order to acquire the warehouse/space.

I'd love to see those warehouses cleaned up.

As much as I really love Foundry, and the momentum it is driving in Midtown, it does stink ever-so-slightly to see the crummy buildings on the eastern edge of the site. They feel out of place and kind of jarring.

I'd also love to see that surface lot just south of Clark and along the highway developed. I can't help but think how impressive that stretch of highway would be if that could get done in addition to Foundry Phase II, Armory apartments, Steelcote, and Cortex developments.

Edit: One of the items near the top of my St. Louis wish list is also a clean up and renovation of the gray-painted Goodwill building on the south side of the highway.

Do you (or anyone else) know if that entire building is in use or if not how much is empty? I see it everyday along my commute and I've often wondered if the upper floors are being used for storage or anything. If the Armory and its residential towers come together it seems like a building set for a loft conversion (or I guess any other use like offices) especially if the pedestrian bridge to the foundry happens.

I know next to nothing about the building outside of how hideous it is.

It does seem ripe for conversion into something better. I can only hope it receives that fate in the next few years.

I was involved in a feasibility exercise on those buildings a few years back, about the possibility to turn them into apartments. It qualified for historic tax credits. The main limiting factor on it was that the interior structural grid layout was not conducive to apartments/parking. Modifying the interior structure violated the tax credit requirements, so the looking stopped there. Maybe a developer with deeper pockets will be able to take those on.

The overall vision of the City Foundry is to expand east with additional retail and residential and/or office space. The west end of the development is likely to be completed first before the attention turns east of Spring but considering how fast phase 2 came about, I expect to hear news on a phase 3 as phase 2 nears completion or shortly after phase 2 is completed. I also have reason to believe that whatever happens east of Spring would be connected to the construction of the pedestrian bridge to the Armory District and remainder of the Brickline Greenway.

A hospitality component has also been looked at as part of a future phase, but it's likely that aspect has gone away in favor or more residential and office. The sooner this area gets denser, the better for all new and existing businesses.

Used Butler’s pantry catering for a holiday event and got a letter from them last week announcing they will be operating a unique space in the Foundry next to the food hall - 18 rails. Maybe I’ve heard this before but seems they are close to actually doing it.
