^ That really cracks me up. In literally every other city in the country (except Baltimore maybe) the East and West sides of the Loop would be the exact same neighborhood.

I read Carr's recent newsletter to that effect. It was completely insane - a conspiracy theory, basically, with the impression that it was written in the middle of the night in front of one of those billboards with pushpin and strings tracing different connections. How did she ever get elected to U City council?framer wrote:Out in my neck of the woods, lines are being drawn between the East Loop (City) and West Loop (County). Seems that some of my U City neighbors are feeling threatened by the growth east of Skinker. Perfect example of why we really need some kind of consolidation.
Here's U City Councilmember Paulette Carr's newsletter, for those interested:

Fictitious name isn't the same as a trademark. I mean couldn't the Loop SBD also get the same fictitious name?
But for fragmentation the CID could have covered the while area. IIRC the plan was that the west loop would create a CID too. Then things would be more even.
More civic energy wasted.
This is an example of the downside of (voluntary) collaboration vs collaboration by default (consolidation)

^^ That is the stupidest thing I've ever read. Outside of the most anti-City University City residents I don't think the vast majority of Loop patrons even realize when they're crossing the boundary between the City/County or East/West Loop. What a joke this lady is. Only could an old St. Louis County resident come up with some malarkey like that newsletter.
East and West Loop are one and the same...it's just the Delmar Loop!
So frustrating lol.

What is a fictitious name and why do I have to register?
A fictitious name is a name under which any person or business shall do or transact any business in this state which is other than the true name of such person or business. A fictitious name is commonly referred to as a "DBA", an acronym for "doing business as." Filing a fictitious name registration does not afford or secure any exclusive rights to the name.
Section 417.200 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri requires anyone doing business under a name other than their true name to file a fictitious name registration with the Secretary of State's office.
When I register a fictitious name, am I the only one who can use the name?
No. There may be an infinite number of businesses using the same name as there is no name protection under the Fictitious Name Act.
This lady’s a wacko.
Even though it makes no sense, maybe beat to move it to one of the Loop threads instead of this one?

Reminder that Carr fired her housekeeper because she found out the housekeeper had written a piece critical of a local developer.

Carr is the poster child for everything that's wrong with regional fragmentation from a policy perspective - not only is she instigating this East Loop/West Loop turf war, she was also instrumental in the Costco TIF that will destroy what's left our region's Chinatown. Therefore I think it's appropriate to keep any Carr-related abuse in this forum.wabash wrote:This lady’s a wacko.

In fact, she was so hysterically opposed to Better Together that she personally collected signatures to get the BoF off the ground. My great hope is that the BoF will ultimately propose (and the region will pass) some recommendation or set of recommendations that she disapproves of. Anything that's bad for Paulette Carr is good for St. Louis.
Yep. I originally posted this here because I think it's a perfect example of the kind of petty bickering over imaginary lines that's holding our region back.

^^I actually hope the "Chinatown" is extensive enough and robust enough it will survive this stupid TIF demolition frenzy. The bulk of it is further east, really. So far they're only wiping the western most bit off the map. And some of that will relocate elsewhere. That said, I understand your fear and frustration.
Could be a real barn burner!

Sounds like some behind-the-scenes efforts have been made to unify City and County police departments:
"...It also put a light on a quiet effort by St. Louis business leaders earlier this year to combine the area’s two largest police departments and polish the region’s reputation by reporting crime statistics in a way that would help St. Louis evade “most dangerous city” lists"...

Combining police departments is a great idea. Hopefully we'll get around to something like unigov gradually, rather than having to wait another generation for a sweeping plan like Better Together.
County Charter Commission has rejected the idea of a Council-Manager form of government for St. Louis County.

Seems like they went for well credentialed people in the region without many representatives of average people.

I expect a bunch of hot air and platitudes and in the end all we get is re-entry.
Put 9 boroughs on the ballot and let me frame the campaign as 9 players on a baseball diamond and I'll get it passed with 75% voter approval.

I have 0 interest in hearing about the examination of anything. This region's problems have already been comprehensively examined by both locals and outsiders, and we should be in the planning and implementation phases of solutions. Instead, we seem to perpetually landing on the Bankrupt tile, and we go back to GO and we certainly never get the 200 bucks.
But at least it keeps the topic of consolidation alive and on people's minds. I was afraid after the collapse of Better Together, that everyone would just forget about it for another couple of decades.

StlToday - Reed cancels special Board of Aldermen meeting as impasse over freeholders picks drags on
https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/gov ... the-latest
Unbelievable! BOA reduction to 14 can't come soon enough! I seriously wish the 14 were split with 7 representing geographical wards and 7 at-large members without a particular ward. We need people who work for the best interests of the city as a whole rather than having 28 mini-mayors. These aldermen are behaving like toddlers. It's time for grown-ups to take charge.

^ I was literally going to post the exact same thing about how much I can't wait for ward reduction. This bullsh*t Sam Moore and his other cronies are pushing is so infuriating. Never mind that the people Moore and these other folks are pushing didn't even apply to join the BoF in the first place. They submitted their applications after the Mayor made her selections. If Moore and these other people pushing for different Freeholders had their picks submit their applications in a timely fashion maybe some of them would have been picked!

Isn't one of their candidates literally the spouse of an Alderman too? I really hope the Mayor stands her ground and just tells them no, they don't get to pull their BS with this one.
