Yep. The people behind Chuy's offered them a lot more money, and they didn't even give Boccardi's a chance to match it. Which seems odd, but who knows. This is from someone inside Boccardi's.

^ Seems odd. I'm guessing there's more to the story. I believe the money behind the new Chuy's is also the money behind a revamping of Agave on Manchester - another Gill property.

are you saying developers leverage their relationships?

I really hope Boccardi's finds another Midtown location, they came down here when nothing was around and deserve to see the good times now that the area is developing into a restaurant destination.

I'll keep you posted!

Ate there at one of the soft opening nights on Friday. Great staff, good food. Amazingly smooth for one of their first nights going live

There's one on Laclede, in between Spring and Vandeventer on the north side of the street.

I know this has got to be somewhere....

but does anyone know the name of the place moving in to Chuy's old location?

A neighbor across the street from me told me it's a restaurant...I don't remember if he said Mexican or just a grill...but he said it's going to be a restaurant. He's been in Dogtown for 20+ years and mows over 100 lawns, so I think he's kind of in the know...in this case, I at least hope he is.

It looks like the liquor permit request meeting signs were posted sometime last week.

Let's make this place happen! BTW, I heard it was going to be a Tex-Mex joint!

Wife and me absolutely despise Tex-Mex, but I welcome anything coming in to the neighborhood.

Per George Mahe's St. Louis Mag blog:

In Dogtown: Tony and Kelli Almond (of Almond's Restaurant) have taken over the former Chuy Arzola's space at 6405 Clayton Ave. It's a fact that Chuy's left a spicy void in Dogtown and the Almond's believe that TexMex is still the way to go. A sidewalk-blocking total facelift is underway. Look for "Latitude 26---Where Tex Meets Mex" to emerge in late May. The fare will reflect the clever name-both Mexican and mainstream items with entrees ranging from $10 to $20, the same value-driven, white-tablecloth-for-less pricing philosophy that has allowed the Almond's to expand their empire in a down economy.

I'm not sure entrees ranging from $10-20 is a huge savings...I mean, you can eat Felix's or Seamus across the street for less than $10 per...a little further you can do the same at Patrick's and Michael's. That said, I still wish them all the luck in the world and we will be down there to support them....but probably just once since we don't like Tex Mex ;)

Can an admin split out the new Chuy's and 6405 Clayton Rd (old Chut's spot) into different threads?

Chuy's moving a couple blocks over: http://www.saucemagazine.com/blog/?cat=19
Meanwhile, Padda has crews tackling numerous other projects. For instance, he’s moving Chuy Arzola’s from its current location inside The Coronado building at 3701 Lindell Blvd., to the former Iggy’s Mexican Cantina location at 3761 Laclede Ave., near St. Louis University. The restaurant will have more fresh fish on the menu as well as two new large patios, all of which is set to be completed over the summer. The vacated Coronado space will be used for banquets.

Interesting. A lot could be going on there to make them move after just 2 years in the current spot.

I think the new spot will be better. The Coronado basement has always seemed to me to be an odd location. For one, it's hard to see, so they may not get much drive-by business. Finding a parking spot on Lindell is always a challenge, and if you're not familiar with the neighborhood, you won't know that there's the garage behind the Moolah. I think they'll so better on Laclede.

I feel just the opposite. I love the space in the Coronado (I call it the first floor, not the basement), and it's got a great patio. Restrooms are kinda awkward to find, though.

On the other hand, I actually drove right past the old Iggy's a couple of times before I finally found it. Seems set back too far from Laclede.

I agree Framer. I always felt the space on Laclede was a bit jinxed.

Interestingly, word was handed down from SLU's Supreme Deciders of the Destinies of All Souls on Campus (read = the facilities department) earlier this year that some office or another (I forget which) would be housed in the Iggy's location starting this summer. We thought it was strange, but these people seem completely arbitrary in their placement decisions. I know a professor in the history department whose office has been moved 10+ times in the 15 or so years he's been at the university.
