A neighbor across the street from me told me it's a restaurant...I don't remember if he said Mexican or just a grill...but he said it's going to be a restaurant. He's been in Dogtown for 20+ years and mows over 100 lawns, so I think he's kind of in the know...in this case, I at least hope he is.

It looks like the liquor permit request meeting signs were posted sometime last week.

In Dogtown: Tony and Kelli Almond (of Almond's Restaurant) have taken over the former Chuy Arzola's space at 6405 Clayton Ave. It's a fact that Chuy's left a spicy void in Dogtown and the Almond's believe that TexMex is still the way to go. A sidewalk-blocking total facelift is underway. Look for "Latitude 26---Where Tex Meets Mex" to emerge in late May. The fare will reflect the clever name-both Mexican and mainstream items with entrees ranging from $10 to $20, the same value-driven, white-tablecloth-for-less pricing philosophy that has allowed the Almond's to expand their empire in a down economy.

Meanwhile, Padda has crews tackling numerous other projects. For instance, he’s moving Chuy Arzola’s from its current location inside The Coronado building at 3701 Lindell Blvd., to the former Iggy’s Mexican Cantina location at 3761 Laclede Ave., near St. Louis University. The restaurant will have more fresh fish on the menu as well as two new large patios, all of which is set to be completed over the summer. The vacated Coronado space will be used for banquets.

I think the new spot will be better. The Coronado basement has always seemed to me to be an odd location. For one, it's hard to see, so they may not get much drive-by business. Finding a parking spot on Lindell is always a challenge, and if you're not familiar with the neighborhood, you won't know that there's the garage behind the Moolah.
