^Sorry to hear about the drone. Looking forward to the new one. The drone is dead. Long live the drone.
The old drone was a DJI Mavic Mini. The new one I’m getting is a huge upgrade. Will be the Mavic Air 2. Compared to my other drone, this one has a 48MP Camera and 4K video quality. Old one had 12MP Camera and 2K video.symphonicpoet wrote:^Sorry to hear about the drone. Looking forward to the new one. The drone is dead. Long live the drone.
So drone photos should be much more detailed. I’ll test it later today
The Mavic Air 2 is now airborne! Pictures came out good during the test run today. This one goes much faster than my old one (got it to ascend at 12mph and go straight at 42mph). The video came out nice and smooth too. It should've uploaded to YouTube at 4K 60FPS. I'll experiment with hyper lapse and night shots later.
The settings on this drone allow me to operate it at Cinematic Mode (slow), Normal mode (medium), and Sport mode (fast). There are other features that I have to play around with before using. It says I can do panoramas and tiny planet photos.

^Most excellent stuff, Chris! The video quality feels almost unreal. Glad to see you back airborne.
Very cool! And the best is yet to come.
I had no idea drones could fly so fast. Reminds me of the fun fact that F-15s could accelerate while flying straight up.

^^^ Love that CWE flyover Chris. I subbed your YT channel, keep these coming!

f*cking st. louis archdiocese. good thing they leveled half a block to store a handful of cars.
Awesome aerial video as usual, Chris.

That flyover is awesome. Thanks Chris. What a neighborhood and what a city.
Sorry, I'd PM this if I was able to, but to continue that flyover to the east a cool path could be Lindell & McPherson (capturing SLU and the Midtown skyline) to around Locust & Theresa (capturing Midtown Alley with DT in the background).

I plan on experimenting with Hyperlapse a bit more than just this. Maybe tonight. It’s a slow process. This 3 second video is about 3.5 minutes worth of flying and picture taking by the drone. To get a cool Hyperlapse from Grand and 64 to Grand and Lindell, it would probably take about 15 minutes.
Hmm. Not sure why the PM feature won’t work for you to send something to me, but posting recommendations in this thread is always encouraged. I’ll experiment with the different view points you mention and see which one works. The new drone has a stronger remote control signal than my old one, so it should work better with trees in the way and go further distances. I recently flew it around the Bella Villa area and it went about 2 miles away from me. Same from Jefferson Barracks Park to the JB Bridge and up to River City Casino.wabash wrote:That flyover is awesome. Thanks Chris. What a neighborhood and what a city.

SP, Framer, PDM, and U_D, thanks for the comments. If any of you have recommendations for drone photos or a video, let me know and I’ll try and make it work. It may not happen right away, but I’ll try and get around to it when time allows.
Here's a pitch out of left field: How about some views of New Town? I think most of us would be interested in seeing how it's filling in, and how the density looks compared with real cities.
^ I’m not a New Town booster, but I’d like that. Especially after the row house pics framer posted in that thread.

I would think some neat transportation timelapses could be fun. Shoot some river traffic out of Bellerive park, maybe, or going through the bridges downtown. Or into Tri Cities. Gateway Yard in East St. Louis is a neat and busy place, but surprisingly hard to see from anywhere legal on the ground. A drone might solve that. You couldn't do drones out at the airport, but time lapse can be impressive anyway. Weave it all together into a coherent story on St. Louis transportation. Maybe if you talk to the right people you could even get the clearances to do some truly cool stuff. Make a freightways video. Hit some truck depots off Hall Street. Maybe Fed-Ex or UPS. The TRRA Madison Yard is always photogenic and there's plenty of rail action across the river as well. (Flying next to the MacArthur pacing a train could be cool.) Maybe even do some highway timelapse. *ducks* Throw in a sunrise and some good music and you have a nice regional promo.chriss752 wrote: ↑May 21, 2021SP, Framer, PDM, and U_D, thanks for the comments. I'll swing by New Town on my way to Kansas City tomorrow. I'm in no hurry to get there, so to stop off at New Town isn't an inconvenience.framer wrote: ↑May 22, 2021Here's a pitch out of left field: How about some views of New Town? Got back from Kansas City yesterday and took many drone photos while I was there (mostly of projects in the Downtown area).

The view down the Grand corridor will change greatly over the next few years. Within this view, three large old buildings will be redeveloped (Scarritt, Rialto, and Federal Reserve) and two new ones will be built (one at 11th and Grand being 7-8 floors and the other at 8th and Grand being 14 floors). All of these are most likely going to add to the street life. The one thin building on the left side of the image has no current redevelopment plan and is empty.

Plaza Area. The beam of light you see is known as "The Steeple of Light", which was envisioned by Frank Lloyd Wright when we was designing the Community Christian Church at the Plaza.

All your drone shots are looking great and the rest in the development threads are great illustrations of the progress. Fantastic stuff, Chris.

To Fly a Drone in the U.S., You Now Must Pass FAA's TRUST Test

I was going to say, if it cost money, this required thing for the Feds would've went straight into the dumpster in my mind.chris fuller wrote: ↑Jun 29, 2021To Fly a Drone in the U.S., You Now Must Pass FAA's TRUST Test
