Apparently the victim was a very highly thought longtime teacher at SLUH.

Having crossed these parts of Gravois 100s of times on a bike I fully aware of the perils.  When you are crossing Gravois you must keep your head on a swivel, focus, and life boils down to simply making it across the street alive. I do not know how to solve the disaster that is Gravois.

Unsurprisingly, the hit and run car was a Chevy Impala.

^We need a whole bunch of road diets, and much of Gravois is assuredly on that list. I think I'd do away with center left turn lanes generally within city limits, replace them with pedestrian islands (with a possible transit RoW reservation), and stick roundabouts on most of the intersections along Gravois. Probably worth choking it down to one lane each way. Give it some nice big sidewalks and protected bike paths inside the parking lane. That needs to happen to a bunch of our streets. I suspect most of our worst offenders have room for two big sidewalks, two broad bike lanes, two tracks, two automotive lanes, and an island in the middle. Large sections of Tucker, Jefferson, Truman. Gravois, Grand, Kingshighway, Hampton, Broadway, Market, Natural Bridge, Florissant, and who knows how many more. With more transit, fewer lanes, more seating, more walking . . . this place could be stunning.

^We invest so little in our public transit infrastructure it's pathetic. If the bus stop had a pull off, a sidewalk, a curb, a bench, and a shelter it would be safer and much much more pleasant. But who cares about people who ride the bus? Yeesh. :(

This quote from the new streets director is concerning. Hopefully it was selective editing or she misspoke.

"We will be looking at safety of the roads for all of our motorists."

Well, it is very dangerous for the average motorist in this city.

You never know when an errant bicycle, scooter, power chair and/or body might come flying through your windshield while you are cruising, partying, firing off random shots, trying to watch and discuss something on TikTok with your fellow partiers, and racing that Mustang someone thinks they saw several stoplights ago. All at the same time.

It's an epidemic that must be addressed!

Yeah, IIRC from reading yesterday that particular scooter's max speed was only like 30 mph too.... Not to be a victim blamer, but probably not the best decision.
