From a Chouteau's Landing Email update:

Chouteau's Landing will open its doors on Historic Fourth Street in early 2008. The owner of The Firehouse Bar, located at 314 State Street in downtown Alton, IL, signed a lease in June 2007 to open a sports-themed bar and grill at 756 Historic Fourth Street in Chouteau's Landing.

"I'm pleased to announce that the first Chouteau's Landing tenant will be a bar and grill and will help build a sense of community in Chouteau's Landing and the neighboring districts," said Steve Murphy, director of Chivvis Development, which is overseeing the renovation of Chouteau's Landing. "It's exciting to be working with an entrepreneur that sees the amazing potential of this district and are eager to be part of the changing downtown landscape."

While the Alton destination is a converted firehouse, owner Dustin Snyders drew on the cult-film classic, Caddyshack, in naming his latest venture Bushwoods. The 3,250-square-foot bar and grill is scheduled to include a 2,500-square-foot outdoor beer garden.

Construction and renovations to 756 Historic Fourth Street, located just behind Broadway Oyster Bar, are already underway. Snyders intends to be open for business in early 2008.

Caddyshack themed? How great would a wise cracking Rodney Dangerfield look a like bartender be?

They better be real careful. I see a trademark infringement lawsuit just itching to be heard, perhaps before Judge Smails.

Come on guys! Jeff posted this so we can be informed about this project and all we can do is make jokes? I for one think that if it gets completed it will be a CINDERELLA STORY!

So basicly it's going to be right behind BOB?

Map

If that parking lot behind the buildings is where the beer garden will be, it sure will be noisy. Between the railroad tracks to the north and I-55 to the east. there will be a lot of traffic noise.

Glad to see the growth in the area to the south of Busch stadium.

Hopefully the "beer garden" won't resemble Hrabosky's or Paddy O's... the BOB model will suit me just fine, thank you.

It looks like there are ghosts wandering around on the sidewalks! Did they build this on an old Indian cemetary?

Great news! I wonder if this means there'll soon be development on the opposite side of the street.

An update from the Choteau's Landing website:

Just blocks from the stadium, Bushwoods Bar and Grill, with its historic hardwood bar and exposed brick walls, is the perfect place to catch Cardinal’s games during the 2008 Season. Bushwoods’ official grand opening will be held in the next month! Check back for the latest updates.

Should they have gone with "BUSCHWOODS" instead? Or is that too much? Nonetheless, looking forward to it.

I went there after last Sunday's Cards game. Nothing really that exciting or impressive: pretty standard bar setup. Two main rooms and a kind of plain patio out back. No signage out front last weekend.

Don't order mixed drinks: the bartenders are really learning and a Jack & Coke is pretty tough for them. No draft beer: bottle only.

I won't go out of my way stop in. But I'll visit when I park around there for a game.

This place had a Closed sign on it last night, and judging from the look of the place inside it doesn't appear to be temporary. I assume the timing is due to the baseball season ending. Anybody know anything more? It would be a bit of a setback for the whole Chouteau's Landing thing.

I was there on Sunday Sept. 14--stopped in for a beer there after watching the Rams lose at Hotshots. A nice space, but they were out of a lot of beer. And for some reason there was a guy doing yoga on the stage. Other than him and the bartender my group of 5 were the only ones there. Cards weren't in town that day and I don't expect that location to pull in a lot of the Rams crowd, but even so I wondered if the place could withstand the baseball off season. Looks like they didn't even make it that long

I stopped in a couple of times and tried to give them business, but I always left irritated. The bartenders were not very good. The pours were weak and they always seemed more interested in talking with their friends.
