Per Tim Logan's Building Blocks, looks like another Locust building is getting rehabbed. This leaves the Alverne in that block if I'm not mistaken. Article covers it pretty good and has some good pictures. The bad news is that the signs are being taken down, but are at least going to be sold.

I've always thought that was a lovely little building; I'm very glad to see it getting new life.

Woo hoo! Great news. I hope they install a new sign that is at least as cool as the existing one.

I hope the old sign is repurposed and doesn't end up in a landfill, or even City Museum.

Great news. But I say leave the signage, it's way too cool.

It was purchased by an unknown entity. I don't think it will be scrapped. I don't know who bought it or what they will do with it, but I can't say I would be the least bit surprised if it ended up being the City Museum.

^ My thought too. I hope it goes back on a commercial building though.

I really hope they put a new sign up. Signs like these add so much character to the neighborhood.

Did MoModern on Cherokee buy it? They've been buying metal and neon signs up (see California Donuts sign formerly on Jefferson).

Damn, I didn't know that sign had been taken down.

I totally made a mistake here. The Jefferson Camera sign was bought by MoModern and the Foam guy is interested in it. Sorry

^ Well... if I had to venture a guess, I believe I might say (with great deference and a thoroughly non-accusatory demeanor, sheepishly, blushing and with tail between legs) that they might have nabbed it from here: https://mobile.twitter.com/countondowntown. Or maybe from here: At the very least, I suspect that's what the count might venture to guess.

Count on Downtown's facebook is the most likely candidate.

I'd love to know if anybody has any info about where this sign will be going.

I have not been able to find information on what's going to happen with the sign but wouldn't be surprised if it'd show up in a future episode of "American Pickers".

Fans of the sign will not like this. From the post dispatch today:

" Workers from Warren Sign, of Arnold, removed the sign this month as part of the project to revive the long-empty building, at 1010 Locust.

So what happened to the old sign?

Sorry, nostaligia heads, but it's as gone, gone, gone as the title of the Everly Brothers' song from the 1960s.

Dr. Daniel Cook, who, with his wife, Anne Leners, owns the building, said this week the metal sign was so corroded that it had to be scrapped. He added that workers who took down the sign discovered that its anchors were in such poor shape that the sign had been a threat of falling to the sidewalk."

How's this building looking? I believe a dentist is now open but not sure what else may be in it.

The rehabbed storefront looks pretty bad, and no noticeable progress has been made on the rest of the building.

^ thanks... too bad. I'll try to take a look. Did it look like any work was starting on the Alverne?
