Let's not do a slop fest.

Service employees like 7 Brew are becoming better jobs as Missouri's minimum wage goes up, it's not like they're getting $7.25/hour. And it's entirely possible that 7 Brew treats their employees better than the average drive-through type restaurant. Overall, the jobs are a net positive but it's also true that we shouldn't treat them as more than they are.

I think the larger critique I have, and others on here will have, of 7 Brew is that their entire business model is drive through coffee. To my knowledge, they have no locations with no drive through. While I personally am not totally opposed to drive through, I think there's ways to make them work, I am not that impressed by a company that seemingly totally relies on drive through business.

As for the Chippewa location, it is a better land use than the previous car wash, but that doesn't mean it's perfect.

I would like 7 Brew more if they put a location in a downtown office building, replaced the Starbucks in BPV, or put a CWE location in one of the vacant storefronts. But they don't and just keep adding more drive through locations that have lots of negative impacts on the immediate environment to go with whatever jobs they might create.

The franchisor is, yes. But the franchisee’s own and operate all stores nationwide (except about 25)

I understand and respect your position. They recently opened a non- drive thru store on High St across from Ohio State. They have another in NW Arkansas. So, I could see the CWE as a possibility.

Fast food employment sucks and does nothing to benefit our community. Looking forward to the tax incentives we have to throw around to get these sites redeveloped in 20 years when this fad passes

Jane - you’re generally correct about the fast food industry. I’d urge you to visit the Kirkwood store for 7 Brew. The kids there are making good money, fun music is being played, everyone is having fun, and the store will be busy with customers.

Lastly, these buildings are modular construction and very easy to demo/disassemble for future redevelopment. Nonetheless, I have a hard time seeing a coffee chain in this Country being a fad. But who knows

So, all restauranteurs are not entrepreneurs because their employees are mostly tip based and non-union. Got it.
Lol that is not what I said but I'm not interested in arguing with someone who's willfully trying to distort my position.

I suspect that 7 Brew and the whole coffee mega-drive-thru trend is here to stay. I personally think they are extremely tacky, but the auto oriented and consumerist nature of the suburbs isn't going anywhere in our lifetimes IMO. More evidence, look at your local drive thru Starbucks, there are often 15 cars in line with maybe two people in line inside. People are lazy and don't want to get out of their car even if it means wasting gas idling for 15 extra minutes. They cater to the same people who get in there car to drive from the Target to the World Market in Brentwood Promenade despite them being 500 feet away from each other.

Mmmmmm I wouldn't say I'm optimistic per se but I can't imagine these are good from a property tax generation per acre to infrastructure required ratio. Also from knowing people in the service industry, it can be difficult to keep up with all the mobile and drive thru orders. I don't like them for a lot of the reasons others mentioned but there's aspects of their business model which may not be sustainable.

So I guess 20 SUVs sitting running in two drive thru lanes is a good thing and I need to shut my commie ass up.

This is your quote: “Ok now, let's not romanticize franchisee's making making their money off of employing low wage non union workers as "entrepreneurs" lol”

What did distort? You are claiming that 7 Brew franchisee’s are not entrepreneurs because they make money with low wage/tip based, non-union workers.

My point was that almost all restaurants are run the exact same way.

There’s no property tax now as it’s just a parking lot in Brentwood. So at least there’s some property taxes being collected. Plus sales, payroll, income, etc taxes from the business.

Schnucks would never allow a large dense building to go on that lot.

No need to shut up. Just having good dialogue about an issue.

I get your point about the environment.
