How did he ever come to the conclusion that was the appropriate way to address his "problem"?

Its like kicking dirt on an umpire: You're still out of the game and you just look like a bigger ass doing it.

Maybe he was trying to motivate his employees to do a better job at threatening the customers?

I saw the writing on the wall when he was in construction. I was in the building and he was on the elevator with me telling me how he was also going to rent the 6th floor so he take the women he meets in his place up stairs. The lesson learned: If you go into the rest/bar business looking bag chicks you will only end up getting screwed.

That's too bad about Su Sala. The proprietors seem to be really nice peeps (which has next to nothing to do with how good your food is, I know.)

Friend from out of town, here working on a contract gig. Renting downtown. We're walking back from the Cards game tonight. I'm pointing out various historically/architecturally significant buildings. Also pointing out various restaurants and bars. We get to Beso. He says, "I was in that place a few weeks ago. It was awful".

I've been there a few times for lunch. It's not bad relative to the price. We had a group that went to ZuZu almost every week, and they tried Beso. Half think Beso is a little better and half think ZuZu is better, neither by a lot.

Then maybe I'm being a little unfair, I've only tried it once and it was a pretty bad experience, enough so I haven't given it a second shot.

Its OK on a Sunday afternoon as they are one of the few places open. The food is average at best, at least what I tried. I would never find myself craving anything they serve, but it is edible. I would rather walk across the street for average food than jump in my car for good food sometimes.

We were there opening night and I had written about our experience then...and we've gone back to try it again recently. The service was still a little sketchy, which they should have worked out by now. Every time we asked our waiter a question about something he didn't know the answer and didn't offer to go ask the manager or get someone who could answer the question. We were sitting outside and told we could take advantage of the happy hour specials....so naturally I asked what the specials were and he couldn't tell us. Then he gives us a drink menu and says everything is included in happy hour special, but he doesn't know the price. Ok, that is fine with me-- we just pick some margaritas off the menu-- thinking they are probably around $5. When we get our bill, the drinks were $9 a piece! So I ask him to go double-check if that was the happy hour special he was talking about...he comes back and says that was the happy hour price. So i was just ticked because $9 is a ripoff....i can go to casa gallarda and get a $6 margarita 3 times the size and a free appetizer buffet there. The location is convenient for me, so I'm sure i'll go back to beso occasionally, but they still need to get their act together I think. I got a chimichanga last time and it actually tasted very good and the food was hot. I've had lots of people complain though that there food is not hot-- which is what happened to me at my first visit. Will be interesting to see what happens to the place.

We ate there in their pario area the other night. Had the appetizer sampler plate ($12) and it was enough for the two of us in this hot weather. The food was not great but it was good. Their margaritas come in three sizes....small $3, medium $6, and large $9. They post a sidewalk sign with the $3 Margaritas on it. I think some folks who were walking by and stopped in for a margarita may have ordered a a margarita thinking they were going to get one the size of my wife's $6 one.

My lady friend says that a bunch of her coworkers LOVE this place. They go at least once a week. I guess maybe Beso has turned things around.

The food was overpriced and average. 12 dollars for Enchiladas? Does than include a handie? They were not even that big!

The service was horrible. It was Friday at 5:30. That isn't the time to screw around.

The Negra Modello was 3 dollars. That's the only thing I liked about the service/food.

And the DJ kept trying to hook up the equipment during dinner. I loved hearing feedback. This happened about 8 times. And they kept adjusting the volume erratically.

Looks like Beso is DONE.

Saw moving vans outside today (Sunday) and they were taking EVERYTHING out. Kitchen equipment, bar furniture and pretty much everything else.

Unless they are going through a major makeover (doubt it), it looks like the problems with ownership have finally caught up with the business.

Or maybe selling horrible Mexican food at way too high of a price didn't pan out to be good for business.

Great location though. It will be sad to see another empty space on Washington.

See, this is what I am saying. If you dont have a good product, poor management, or what ever else, I dont feel bad for it closing. That is why I voice all my opinions to the local businesses I visit. I am honestly so happy this place is gone. Hopefully an ethical business owner will take over and provide great value with good food.

Currently my favorite business downtown is Gelateria on 14th and Washington. Amazing product, amazing service, and great value. If something like this went under, i would truly be upset. For Beso, EH.

Really? Amazing service? I love the Gelateria's food, but service often stinks. Half the time, and this is usually a group of 6 getting gelato, not a single "Thank you" is uttered by the gelista (??). One time, I asked if there was any more lemon gelato (the tub was basically empty). The clerk shook her head no, and I got something else. As I sat down to eat it, she put in another tub of lemon.

^ Perhaps the gelatorista misunderstood you. It would seem odd that someone would go out of their way to deprive a man from lemon gelato. That would be entirely too cruel. And I don't really recall being told "thank you" at food service locations very often at all. Just my two cents.
