Recently, the "for lease" sign disappeared off of the front of the Old Bavarian Inn building (formerly Alibi's) on Arsenal near Gravois. This happened shortly after the phone number was blacked out. I'm wondering if the property was finally sold (or leased). Anyone know more?
I hope someone did buy it - it's a great old building. Maybe the same person could tear down those awful 1960's apartments next door while they're at it.
The Business Journal article about Flyover Fund's apartment development on Jefferson included this:
Locally based Flyover Fund invests in mixed-use developments across the St. Louis region and also recently acquired 12 parcels in the Tower Grove East area that includes the old Bavarian Inn.
Thought I would start a new thread for this one because I heard some rumors in the last year or so about it. There were a few proposals when the entire area was put up for sale - hoping this means one of those stuck.
Great news on the Bavarian Inn! Although I was hoping the concept could be revived one day it is great to see the building come back to life. In terms of the new construction I really hope there is a small retail presence on Arsenal. That area would be a great spot for a little node of neighborhood retail.
So I'm not sure what specific plans are but I looked up that address up for permits after seeing what appeared to be someone with blueprints waiting outside the building the other day as I was passing by. But Alderwoman Ingrassia says the office permit is for the old Grove East Provisions building, which this group (I believe the same folks as behind the planned infill mixed-use building on S. Jefferson in Benton Park) had acquired earlier than the Bavarian Inn and parking lot/vacant lots... the ground floor space I believe already has been whiteboxed. Not sure why they would have the permit in for the Bavarian Inn building if its just finishing it off for an office tenant there and not for something at the Inn but I guess we'll see soon enough.
Anyway, their various holdings at this corner present a really great redevelopment oppty including infill.... hopefully something good comes.

Update: Workers were over at the Bavarian yesterday; a $40k permit has been issued for prep work for what's now "commercial/residential" use. So not sure if the $650k permit for "office" use that was applied for a couple months ago is relevant or not.
Across the street at the old Provisons space, which already was white-boxed, work has begun on office use. And it appears there was some testing of the parking and vacant lots. So hopefully some good things are coming soon and hopefully some solid infill not far behind.
And that other commercial building under residential rehab on Arsenal/Gravois by different ownership seems to be nearing completion.
I allowed a member of my Facebook group to post plans anonymously for the vacant lot but then I took them down because I didn’t know if they were real or not. It was a good scale, great design, and tied in nicely with everything.
The Kutis at Gravois, Arsenal and Nebraska is still open? I was not aware of another one nearby. The Old Alibis or Bavarian Inn is seeing some renovation and that is at Arenal and Minnesota. Not sure if that is what you are referring to?
