Oh Jeez. Not parking please ☹
I don't see a future where this could ever be a parking lot. It could put like.. 10-12 cars? And you'd be adding two new curb cuts. And it's still a full block from the urgent care that probably has no parking issues. So I don't see it helping there at all.
I think what would be funny, and productive, is if someone proposed a new 2-4 story building here in the exact cut out of the original that you can see in the brick, and about half a foot from the windows that TWG just 'had to have'.
Seriously. Sad, petty, out of town predatory sh*t.

"I don't see a future where this could ever be a parking lot."
i wonder how many St. Louisans have said this, over the years, about the many pieces of property that are now parking lots.

I mean, literally, it's not even worth what it would probably make as a parking lot. Maybe a handful of VIP spots for Level would make its money back after 15 years.
Then again, maybe, when you think of it that way, upsettingly. But it's not owned by TWG apparently, so I'm not sweating that. Maybe Saggar is just holding onto it. Or maybe has a plan. That's what I would hope. In the end, easy to be depressed these days.

yeah, this. and i wasn't trying to be snarky at you or anything so sorry if it came off that way.In the end, easy to be depressed these days.
I also find it interesting that in the 1900 Olive thread Ald. Jack Coatar's response mentions how they are mobilizing to bring historic building demos into review while in his own ward rather recently the structurally intact and historically significant Tudor building was demolished on a mere whim. (His response essentially 'oops')
I hope he is more genuine than his (in)actions make him appear.

I think between he, Ingrassia, Cohn, some sort of action could be shored up. Those are at least the vaguely to somewhat publicly outspoken on 1900 Olive. 19th Ward is taking an urbanist beating between SLU Med, MLS, that QT rumor at Lafayette/44.
Deflating. I was hoping someone would build a spite building right in front of TWG's precious windows.
First we waste a historic building .... and then try to compensate with c$@p like this.

Just FYI: The Pocket Parks group is a non-profit trying to activate empty lots - they are only leasing the land.
However, the people controlling the lot, I agree, suck.

^Good to know. No need to snark the wrong people. I had to fight the temptation to act like a child on their survey. It's hard to be an adult sometimes, but I'm glad I was.

I took the survey and politely pointed out that Downtown Neighborhood Association got HOK to work pro bono to design family friendly spaces with basketball courts, playgrounds etc for gateway mall (where these should go) Just implement those instead

I thought it was odd on the survey one of the options was frisbee golf course. Made me think that could be a fun option along the gateway mall from soccer to the arch. Except roads and cars would probably dislike it.dbInSouthCity wrote:I took the survey and politely pointed out that Downtown Neighborhood Association got HOK to work pro bono to design family friendly spaces with basketball courts, playgrounds etc for gateway mall (where these should go) Just implement those instead
This demo was the most fudged-up move in recent history.
Sod and artistic paint though totally make up for it.right?

^It's got some serious competition for the "most fugged up" title, but . . . yes. It's a stupid mess. I have to think it should still be possible to build something useful on that site though. Townhouses wouldn't suck if they actually followed through.
Temporarily, I would think something like space for 3 food trucks would be a good use. A simple two story mixed use would be great. Calls into question why bother with the demolition again, at all (I mean, in reality, that building could have been stabilized, we've seen far worse on here).
I love when this thread comes back from the dead from time to time. And hate it.

^ my bad. I was waiting at the intersection and it broke my heart ( again) to not see what should have been there still.
Also illustrates for me how vacant single use public (quasi public here) spaces look when fair-weather programming is not around (looking at you pedestrian-only-streets advocates)

This is for sale - $249,500. Lease as a park is up at the end of 2026 but can be ended now. Here's hoping someone purchases and builds something here.

What could realistically be built on this site now?
A single-floor restaurant or retail space?

That is probably the best we could hope for, maybe they could swing a rooftop patio

I kind of doubt that with the windows that were added along the side of the would-be adjacent building.
