any reports on how this experiment turned out? (that is if it's been done yet)

Anyone need a colon transplant or new plumbing?

Will there be a ranking of slingers?

Maybe this explains the unknown smell.

It'll take a couple weeks to get the shirts. I'm aiming to start around Feb 12.

What are you going to do with the shirts? The slinger graphic looks like heat radiating from a turd. Seriously. ;)

I'm embarrassed, but I had to look up what a slinger is. Seems kind of reminiscent of a horseshoe from my hometown, Springfield.

Looks delicious, though 7 in 7 days seems challenging to the colon, at best.

I enjoyed many a horseshoe growing up near Springfield.

Here's the final shirt design:

I guess it was cheaper to do one color. Better though, certainly less turd-like. I think it is supposed to be a steak on the plate.

What does a steak have to do with a slinger?

Well, that image was the closest I could find on the internet. I didn't want to put the time into making an image myself as I have few graphical artist skills, no one offered up a better image, and the people buying the shirts didn't voice any objections.

^ Oh, the shirt is nice. I wonder what the boys at stl-style would create?

I think there should be some kind of youtube videography of your adventure. Or be like the McDonalds dude and eat nothing but slingers for 30 days straight. Now that would be great!

This sounds almost as dangerous as two contests we held in college.

The original contest was 100 beers in 100 hours. When that lost it's thrill we did 100 White Castle hamburgers in 100 hours. (The White Castle was behind our apartment.) I still can't decide which was worse.

I've enjoyed many a horseshoe in Springfield, Illinois. A couple of times when I stayed there I even had them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They're a little easier on the tummy than slingers even if they're not all that easy on the arteries after frequent consumption.

I like the occasional slinger, but the horseshoe is a culinary guilty pleasure that I crave frequently. Good thing Springfield isn't far away. 8)

Going to get one this weekend. Buffalo chicken!

And I'm going to try this slinger thing next week. My arteries are feeling like cowards at not braving one.

The 7 Slingers in 7 Days Challenge is commencing on Friday the 13th.

We're turning this into a charity fundraiser for Heat Up St Louis. It'll work like a walk-athon where people may pledge to a team member a certain amount per slinger. Only difference is that we're definitely stopping at seven slingers. PM me if you'd like to make a pledge. There are seven members on the team.

Note: The 7 Slingers Team is in no way affiliated with Heat Up St Louis. Your donation may be tax deductable; check with your tax advisor. 100% of your donation will go to Heat Up St Louis.

Where is the best slinger? I've only had them at Eat Rite and Courtesy, Courtesy being my favorite by far.

The slinger at the Shangri-La Diner on Cherokee St. is great, and you can get a good horseshoe at the Kampsville Landing gas station/restaurant in Kampsville, Illinois.

Just got back from spending the day in Springfield, IL visiting the Lincoln sites and I am still full from the horseshoe I had five hours ago at Sammy's Bar and Grill downtown by the old capitol.

as for the slinger, gotta say in the "traditional" category I'd say Courtesy wins hands down. Haven't had too many of the non-traditional ones. I'd like to try Rooster. Hammerstone's had a pretty good one that was slightly different (though I can't remember exactly how)

Every time I eat the slinger at the Courtesy, I want to kiss the person who invented it. The slinger at Eat Rite uses sausage instead of hamburger, and I'm pretty certain I prefer the hamburger.

PostFeb 09, 2009#48

Someone at work today told me that OT Hodges invented the slinger. Is that true?
