I'm still wondering if DeWitt family made a run at this property or not. DeWitt Family/Cordish Group certainly jhave the financial means to pickup properties and play the long game on value. Just curious on what their thought process has been ever since 300 S Broadway came on the market with its proximity to ballpark and BPV. Heck, wonder the same on what they think about old Steakhouse property

I certainly wouldn't complain about a rooftop bar and or some bleachers
^ That was my thought as well when I read Chris' comment but when looking at the angle on Google it doesn't appear that a simple set of bleachers would offer much of a view into the park. Would love to see something different or a unique experience when compared to the options available inside Busch.
The rooftop bleacher idea wouldn't really work here especially if the apartments are taken in the luxury direction. It would be a private deck. I'm not sure if you can see into the Stadium from the current roof. Expect something to address this.
I'm fairly certain you would get a terrific view of the back of the main scoreboard, and not much else.chriss752 wrote: ↑Aug 07, 2020The rooftop bleacher idea wouldn't really work here especially if the apartments are taken in the luxury direction. ^You could put a tower on the roof. Slap some lighting on it, an observation deck, and call it a feature. Maybe put a globe on it. Or a big logo. There used to be a couple of rooftop towers downtown. One with a nifty sort of cylindrical top. But I can't find it on a map just now. Wonder if it was demolished when I wasn't looking.

You can see into the stadium, but there's not exactly a great view of the field. Still, you'd be able to hear the game and see the activity, so if you're looking to people watch and experience the atmosphere then you're in a great spot.

^ I'm sure the Cards would be happy to take down the scoreboards to accommodate their neighbors.
I'm interested to see what they come up with...Chris said to expect something to address the view. It'd suck if it's only for residents (well...would suck for non-residents), but maybe they could do something similar to 360 up the street? Free if you live/stay there, but charge a cover to get in otherwise. I'm sure the logistics of that are totally different since we're talking hotel vs. apartments, but just thinking out loud. It'd probably get annoying to residents.

Congrats to Alice and Dan from Bamboo. I've known and worked with them before, and I have a very high opinion of their work. Whatever the plans are going forward, I believe we all can have strong confidence in their output and intentions toward this historical building.

Not to get too far off topic, which is the good news about 300 S Broadway, when did 360 start charging a cover? Or do they only do that on game/DJ nights or some such? I've been there many times and I don't believe they've ever charged me a cover. Maybe I've not been there during a game, but I'd have sworn I was there during late innings once. (Maybe they quit after a certain inning?)EssTeeEll wrote: ↑Aug 07, 2020^ I'm sure the Cards would be happy to take down the scoreboards to accommodate their neighbors.I'm interested to see what they come up with...Chris said to expect something to address the view. I've been many times to 360 as well (not since COVID-19 started) and never got charged a cover, not even during game days.

I’ve been maybe 3 times (all pre covid) and I don’t ever recall a cover
Not to get this too much off topic (maybe this is more of a state of downtown thread topic) but I’ve been thinking about this for a while (all of it is in a non covid world) what is downtown missing? First let’s agree what it is- it’s a place where 75,000 people work, millions come to sports events, concerts and conventions, people 30 and under get stupid drunk at wheelhouse, start bar, midwestern and that game 6 place. It’s missing places for people in the 30-45 age group (mostly 30-40) who aren’t into stupid drunk anymore. If I didn’t live down here (outside of ball games) as a 34 year old I would never come downtown.....what does it need? More places like 360 (but maybe less snappy) more places like taproom (imagine if downtown had 5 micro breweries/taprooms) it needs more live events (imagine a Whitaker like music festival in the gateway mall) Tucker Ave 2 lane in each direction.
^shots fired at the Budweiser brew house for not being a taproom..... haha
But more seriously I do think some downtown breweries would be nice, assuming we aren’t calling Schlafly and four hands downtown.
I fall into your 30-40 range and I don’t know what would get me downtown more. I loved living downtown in my 20s but I’m past the party stage. Living in one Cardinal Way would be fun but I have a house now so that isn’t happening. There just are so many good spots closer to where I live in Ucity that going “all the way” downtown seems unnecessary. Sports get me down there normally. Not sure what else would get me to go down there regularly, but in Covid world it is hard to go back into the going out and doing things around people mindset again also. I do want to check out the new Union Station stuff but that is more of a one off.

^I think I can agree with most of that. I feel like there were more live events downtown at one time. Have there been any concerts on the mall since the remodel? That used to be a thing. (And it would surely help if it were again.) It's a great place for smaller to middling acts. There used to be concerts at Union Station under the trainshed on the somewhat regular. (Largely sponsored by KSHE, I think. Back when they were more rock and less classic.) Bringing some of that back would surely help. But . . . none of that is happening until after we get the Trumplague under control.

I've always thought we should have a large Festhalle style building that would have local breweries rotate in as suppliers on a monthly or quarterly basis. You could do the same thing with food presumably. My pick would be the building at 1711 Locust.
^ To those who were asking about cover, I haven't been in awhile. But I've gone maybe a handful of times -- once while staying there, the other times just for fun. I've always gone before 10pm because, per their Facebook Messenger, they charge a $10 cover after 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The message is from 2018, so something may have changed between now and then.
But yes, give me more places like that it. Hopefully 300 S Broadway will become one...looking forward to see the details.

I work Downtown (or used to, before WFH) and the main thing my colleagues and I viewed as missing were nice spots to get a drink after work. For a long time Bridge was pretty much the only option. 360 is ok for the views, but the food/drinks are not spectacular and feel just like an average hotel bar. Things were changing a bit for the better right before COVID with all those boutique hotels opening downtown but I assume all of that is gone now.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Aug 10, 2020I’ve been maybe 3 times (all pre covid) and I don’t ever recall a coverkipfilet wrote: ↑Aug 10, 2020I've been many times to 360 as well (not since COVID-19 started) and never got charged a cover, not even during game days.

The low hanging fruit, to me, to get 30-45 year olds downtown is to build rowhouses in downtown west and downtown south that will attract families. Get that demographic living there more often and you’ll get more businesses catering to their needs/wants.

SLBJ
From Clark & Broadway

Is there a better space available anywhere for a classic sports bar?
I'm talking about a huge, open floor plan bar with high ceilings (tin would be great); wide-open, floor-to-ceiling, fold-open windows (including those first floor transom windows) along the whole width of the building along Clark and Broadway; with a dozen or so big screen TVs you can see (and hear) across the street; outdoor seating along a narrowed Clark Ave.; kitchen on the 2nd Floor; game room and party rooms on the 2nd and 3rd Floors with batting cages, pop-a-shot, air-hockey, etc.; and one of the best rooftop decks anywhere...
Who cares that you can't watch the game from it, a rooftop deck here would have absolutely killer views and atmosphere. And all of this, directly across the street from center field, and kitty corner from Ballpark Village. Put a bright, 3-story-tall blade sign on the corner of the building, and you'd be able to see it all the way down Clark from 7th Street.
This is what I'd always hoped they would do with the Clark & 7th corner of the Westin Hotel, but that wasn't really feasible between historic preservation and Metro station access requirements. And also what I've long hoped for this building, since Busch III first started rising across the street, but didn't think would ever be possible.
I'm thinking of the kind of authentic, legendary sports bar where people gather whether the team is home or away. St. Louis has never had a stadium / arena-adjacent bar like this, at least not since the Sportsman's Park era (the kind of place the BarMall wishes it could be).
Now, cue the sayers of Nay!...

I've always thought someone should have a bar called MOBEER and just serve beer from Missouri, craft and domestic.
I would like to see what a craft brewery could do with the atrium (once every last vestige of the 1980's is eradicated from that space):pattimagee wrote: ↑Aug 11, 2020I've always thought someone should have a bar called MOBEER and just serve beer from Missouri, craft and domestic.
