Will agree about the view from park pacific. Something so iconic is hardly visible. Hopefully, they update the existing cobra heads and poles to the new standard of LightMYSTL that way there is more of an identity along city ROW and not every entity doing their own thing. Although anything on the Union Station property should be free game to them and with what they are creating they should have fun with it.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Oct 14, 2019It will be done in about 3 weeks, I pointed this out to someone at LHM and he said they’ll get better lighting within 3-4 weeks. It’s not that it’s just dark it’s a mix match of type of lights that are in place toochris fuller wrote: ↑Oct 14, 2019Whosoever responsibility it is: the lighting along Market specifically along Union Station needs to be better lit. It is VERY dark along that section of parking along either side of Market
I also suggested to them to light up the clock tower (I have a view of it from my place in park pacific and barely noticeable at night) they said they like the idea

For the record, the street lamps on both sides of Market between 18th & 20th are acorns, not cobra heads, thank god. Not sure if I actually find lightmySTL tacky or if it just stems from my hatred of cobra heads. And if you think acorns are too dim, take a visit to Euclid, north of Maryland if you haven't recently.LArchitecture wrote: ↑Oct 14, 2019Hopefully, they update the existing cobra heads and poles to the new standard of LightMYSTL

Ah yes, that is correct. Not sure how I missed that I just walked by them this weekend. While the LightMYSTL may just be cobra heads, I am all for better and updated lighting specifically on streets that are currently underlit. Aesthetically it would have been cool to see something a little more than cobra heads but if they bring higher safety to the area I won't complain too much.aprice wrote: ↑Oct 14, 2019For the record, the street lamps on both sides of Market between 18th & 20th are acorns, not cobra heads, thank god. Let's hope they don't go with lighting similar to the Grove on Manchester. Really messed up the nighttime vibe in my opinion.

I get the need to have brighter lights - especially if that's what local businesses and residents wanted. Surely there's some form of cap that can be installed to help direct the light more down and not as horizontal.

Seems like they could also install LED's that're brighter but have the same warm color as halogen/sodium street lights at a fraction of the maintenance/electricity cost.

Maybe behind the scenes but I read Hard Rock had a biz focus change and closed a number of locations and are concentrating on their hotel concept, like the one under construction in New Orleans that just had the disaster.
Anyway, it doesn't seem like it hurt Union Station any, and it will be interesting to see if Hard Rock makes a return to Saint Louis eventually.

I think Hard Rock's hotel concept would work really well somewhere in Laclede's Landing, but I bet they'd go to St. Charles or something like that.
There was a Hard Rock Hotel rumor a few years ago for the downtown Crowne Plaza building. I thought a Hard Rock Cafe on the Promenade Level facing the Arch would have been great. Downtown is seriously lacking in Arch View restaurants.
^^ I doubt very much they'd build a Hard Rock out in the sticks.
Personally I think a multi-level Hard Rock would work great in the old building at 300 S Broadway. I doubt that Cordish would want the competition with BPV, but I think it'd be a good fit for that area. With MLB, the NHL, soon to be MLS, the redevelopment of Union Station, etc I'm not sure why they would choose a low density suburban area with few attractions over downtown.
At the end of the day though, I'm not sure they'll even renter the market.

I was going to comment the same thing. Those are terrible.STLinCHI wrote: ↑Oct 15, 2019Let's hope they don't go with lighting similar to the Grove on Manchester. Really messed up the nighttime vibe in my opinion.
I think the Union Station Hard Rock's lease simply expired. They were open just a few days shy of exactly 20 years.sc4mayor wrote: ↑Oct 15, 2019^^ I doubt very much they'd build a Hard Rock out in the sticks.

The Hard Rock Cafe brand is so played out anyway, so 1995. They killed their brand in North America when they started opening in places like Louisville, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, etc. The investment focus since the Seminole tribe bought it has been on Hard Rock hotels and casinos in tourist destinations, while the new Hard Rock Cafes now go in shopping malls, airports, racetracks, at their casinos, etc., or in places like Laos, Nigeria, Azerbaijan, Paraguay, etc. where having one in their city still makes the locals feel like they have hit the big time...
A great themed-restaurant / entertainment venue for 300 S. Broadway would be House of Blues, but I don't think there's much chance of that happening. And as long as I'm daydreaming, I wonder if there would be enough space to repurpose the atrium in that building as a performance venue...

Went by around 3pm today and it was packed. Long lines for the wheel and the Soda Fountain had a wait too
That’s without a few things open like the the aquarium and rope course

This is not acceptable.
A detour of basically two blocks that includes walking in the street to get to MetroLink station. Keep in mind the east entrance to the station is closed for months for whatever that excavation is that they're doing there. But such is life for a pedestrian in St. Louis. There's not even a rider alert on Metro's website, so how many people miss their trains by not accounting for an extra several minutes walking there.

They said on that news that 4,000 people rode the wheel on Saturday. Shocked me that many people are riding it. If you told me 4000 a month I would have believed you.
Is that more than the trolley has ever had total? kidding, kind of.

4,000 on a Saturday is legit. They’re open 12 hours a day and their capacity per ride is 336 people and 4 total rides per hour or 16,128 per day. This will easily do 500,000 alone in year one.

It really shows up at night with the lighting package. I love what they're doing with it.

Views from my living room (19th floor of park pacific)....every night
I was in Lafayette Square over the weekend, and noticed a pretty cool view of it looking straight down Mississippi Ave from Park.

Yeah. It's not hugely dramatic, but it is definitely visible in the night skyline.

Union Station attractions should clean up in summer tourism season.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Nov 12, 20194,000 on a Saturday is legit. They’re open 12 hours a day and their capacity per ride is 336 people and 4 total rides per hour or 16,128 per day. This will easily do 500,000 alone in year one.
Again I think 1,000,000 visitors to the various entertainment attractions was the number that LHM touted during the city incentives process (although there wasn't clarity on what exactly be coming at the time) and I recall thinking that would be pretty decent... I wouldn't doubt if things wind up significantly higher.
