Nice write-up on the aquarium in Blooloop (an attractions industry trade paper):

Anyone know the status of the construction of the Ferris Wheel? I would assume it should have risen by now. Maybe they are waiting to get the aquarium done before completed assembly of the wheel.

It's under construction. On site work in minimal so far but the've posted photos of the manufacturing in progress.
I'm unsure if any of the metrolink tunnel work is related to any Union Station enhancements.

Paric is Building it. I don’t know who the designer is.

I wonder how this wheel will interaction with the soccer stadium? Will it view into the stadium, will the stadium views of downtown be blocked? Hopefully the two groups have spoken to enhance each element.

If I understand the layout of the plans, the wheel would not block downtown views, and rather, if anything, enhance views.

This old rendering shows where the wheel will be located.

I think the pitch has been rotated, however, based off of where the stadium is in regard to the Drury garage in this rending and where it is in the new rendering.

According to the website for Union Station the wheel is located to the West not South.

Well, then I think all of these renderings are changing.

It definitely looks like the wheel is on the west side, but closer to the south. I think this means it would offer views of the stadium, but probably still not destroy views of downtown.

I don't know. And I'm not sure the MLS owners do, either, because if they did we might have had more detailed renderings of the stadium's surroundings.

Came here to post this pic.  So yes, the Ferris Wheel will in my opinion will enhance the view from the stadium.  I think it would be pretty cool to see that towering over the park.  And since it's a giant wheel I wouldn't really say it would block any views.  You can mostly see through it.

Here is an idea that I am hoping the area will look like when done.

Look at all those surface lots across the street from the stadium and union station.

Wouldn't it be sweet to see those start to get filled in?

^The big lot on the north side of Pine is usually pretty well full with police vehicles. I don't think that one is going anywhere.

Yeah that's used for the Police Headquarters.  But those other lots could be good candidates.

It would nice to see if the city truly pushes a vision of returning the street grid in around the stadium itself, whether Clark Ave on south side of stadium gets extended & reconnected, 21st extended to market, and if 22nd street extended south along the west side to Clark (as shown is some of the earlier renderings.    Believe the last renderings remotely bringing street grid back to West Downtown was McKee's Northside once upon a time renderings years back.   In the meantime, just don't see anything reported as of late on such unless I'm missing something or if that push will come once a MLS team can be locked in.

Feds announced next round of BUILD grants (formerly TIGER grants) and I believe the region would have a shot at it if somehow street grid can be tied into bigger NGA access and enough matching funds can be promised.

Got off topic, but it will be interesting how well Union Station and the stadium can or will try to compliment themselves.   Union Station with its increased number of hotel rooms can't complain about another event venue that will attract a whole new group of visiting out of town fans literally at it doorsteps.  Especially when rival Chicago and KC fans can hop on train and be dropped off a block away from your hotel or drive straight to your hotel and not worry about driving until you leave the city to go home... Can already see rival fans setting up defacto camp at Union Station

I would like to think that Union Station and the stadium will work to compliment each other. I mean, I'd guess that the stadium is the reason the wheel has moved from the south side of the station to the west.

I'm almost certain that rival fans will camp out at Union Station. Soccer seems to have dedicated groups that travel with the team a bit more than other sports do.

As for the grid, something needs to be done. It's a mess around Union Station and Midtown.

It is on top of the old Harry's location that can be seen in the first pic and it is in the big red rectangle west of the stadium in the second.

Is that hotel really in the red space?

Ugh. St. Louis City couldn't have made sure a bigger, better hotel would be going in right next to the stadium?
