A system with the mentality that more is always better. It matters to me because we're on be on the hook for long term maintenance of these.

Here's a blog post about the more is better approach to transportation

There is also a poster strapped onto the patio railing at the now shuttered Johnny Gitto's. Maybe they are trying to imply all this new highway construction will revitalize the economy in the City?

I think it's as simple as the owners of the buildings are supporters and the irony is lost on them.

^Well pretty much everyone in a construction, engineering, trucking, government, union or logistics related field is elated with Amendment 7. I've yet to see a single "vote no" sign, commercial, billboard, or radio ad and it's no wonder why.

What is the law for Constitutional Amendments in Missouri? Do they require 2/3 of the electorate voting yes, or 50%+1?

I'm rather glad the US constitution does not work that way.

Pro side on McGraw KTRS. Cites rising fuel economy, fails to mention inflation.

Con side on McGraw KTRS

I keep seeing the Show-Me institute as being against this. So, is Sinquefield against this?

And if so, why isn't he pouring money into the Vote No campaign?

You'd think retail would have an issue.

^ I'm kinda confused on that one too, the statehouse refuses to tax online sales yet it is ready to let voters decide to increase sales tax that is collected through the brick and mortar mom and pop MO stores.

Retail doesn't really care. They like better roads because of shipping. Plus it's not like they have to show this increase of their sticker price. . Price shown on a new tv at best buy is $500 on August 4th and August 6th if it passes...and $3.75 of tax that you will pay on that TV..won't stop you from buying it,

^Alright. 1) I like your edits to the first part of your statement. It's a bit less outlandish now. 2.) It's benefitting that you should use Best Buy as an example. They're being absolutely hammered by Amazon right now (as many brick and mortar retailers are), partly due to Amazon not having to pay state sales tax. How is having to charge more for their products without seeing any of the additional revenue supposed to help Best Buy again?

Let's back up a second, did you vote to raise the sales tax to fund metro?

As for as best buy goes
Best Buy witnessed a 6.5% growth in its revenue in fiscal 2014, while its net earnings (excluding discontinued operations) increased to $687 million compared to a net loss of $469 million in fiscal 2013. Best Buy’s stock price increased by approximately 200% in calendar year 2013.

This is after they totally exited the entire European market in 2013. I imagine that was a costly venture.

Here's why raising the sales tax for MetroLink specifically isn't the same as this:

1. There aren't other better and more obvious ways to raise funding for a transit system that needs to be built out into a more useable network.

2. If there are, they aren't even remotely being given consideration. Like as in even being tossed around.

3. That tax did not come tied to a bunch of projects that will negatively impact the region.

Yup...If more money is needed for road expansion and modernization, the 17 cents motor fuel tax in Missouri should be raised. Most of the money that would be raised by passing Amendment 7 would go to roads according to "project lists". And, I suspect that an even higher proportion will go to roads than the "project lists" identify.

If Amendment 7 substantially advanced our transit system I seriously would have considered it. But it doesn't. And that's not so much MoDOT's fault than that of Saint Louis County and Metro. Actually, I believe our transit list may do more harm than good.... the "BRT" projects and Westport expansion study are rather problematic. (As for the good projects on the list, the Cortex stop will be funded regardless and the contribution for Saint Louis Streetcar, while helpful, isn't much of a catalyst to secure the overall project.)
