Probably even more could you imagine having one of the lofts with those big arch windows!
That would be so cool!
Good call on the Lemp Complex. I noticed that near the Lemp Brewery, the old Fallstaff Brewery on Shenandoah is up for sale. I'm surprised no one has taken this project on, it certainly seems more manageable.
I know there has actually been a few proposals for the Lemp Brewery complex over on Cherokee. The last one I remember was several years ago and was supposed to create an entertainment district there. I really thought that one had enough momentum behind it, but it faded away as well.
I think that the lead investor in that proposed project passed away, which is probably why it never came to fruition.
It's such a huge complex, but I would think that if it was redeveloped in phases, it could be manageable.
Right now, a developer is working on a similar project in Milwaukee - the redevelopment of the old Pabst Brewery. I haven't checked on its status in a while, but last I heard, they were trying to lure a House of Blues and other retailers/restaurants there and were going to build housing.
cathedral bascillica (not sure why this building gets so little attention. it is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful buildings in the region. i've been to europe, and our bascillica ranks right up there with the best the french and italians have to offer. Little story. The guy who lived next to me in college was from Madrid, and a friend of his came in town. It was her first time in America. Of course I appointed myself Abassador of the City, and the Bascillica was one of the places I took her. She was floored. She couldn't get over how beautiful it was, and kept saying how much it reminded her of home. She didn't think we had "anything like this in the US." On our way out Mass started, the choir and organ soared, and the procession seemingly floated by with their candles, incense, and crucifix. We were both arrested in our tracks, despite our lapsed-Catholic status, by its inspirational beauty. Before she left, she told me that that was one of her favorite memories of St. Louis.)
masonic temple on lindell (not the scottish rite one, and not exactly for its aesthetics. i love this building because it is one of the most eccentric and crazy i have ever seen. its scale is so dramatic and heroic, its style so fierce and so proud, you just have to love it)
union station (long live romanesque! see cathedral bascillica above)
and finally, red building with white trim on the extreme western end of wash ave. anybody have a pic or a name?
I worked at Gateway One (is that the name of it) and had a view onto that building and the detail around the windows was amazing. The color is awesome too
1. Little Bevo -- Across Morgan Ford from the Bevo Mill
2. A specific house on Lindell across from Forest Park-- It is bright yellow, and looks to be a Spanish style; can't remember if it is east or west of DeBaliviere
