That one was before my recollection - what killed it?

Wasn't the reason this was never built some stupid reason like it would have an adverse effect on the lawns of about four different homes in the surrounding neighborhood?

Wouldn't people on that side of Forest Park want an elevated view of the park? From Skinker, a tall building would get views of not only the park, but also the skyline beyond.

In fact, if it's tall enough, that might be one of the best spots in all of the metro for views of both St. Louis' and Clayton's skylines.

This is my hood and yes, there are lots of NIMBYs, but there are also a lot of progressive-minded people who welcome increased density.  I am retroactively embarrassed that a highrise proposed for a VACANT LOT was shot down.  I have heard that 801 Skinker tower purchased the lot where the highrise was proposed to preemptively c*ckblock anything tall or imposing, but I don’t know that for sure.

^ I don’t know what their plans are for the lot, in the unlikely event that they even have any plans…but I checked last night and it is owned by 801. Dba…Eight O One Skinker Blvd Corp.

They also own the lot immediately behind 809 on San Bonita.

801 does own 809 as well as 6211 San Bonita. Both are zoned single family residential.

This is the best candidate for a new high rise. There are no single family homes in the immediate vicinity and the building to west is apartments.

To answer the Q from another tbread, 809 S Skinker and 6211 San Bonita are owned by the coop in the tower next door. If only it were owned by poor people or in the way of a stadium.

Ah, yes; the old adage: If you like your view, then buy it.

The new single-family on Skinker just north of Clayton is nearing completion. Really stands out from it's neighbors, with a light stone façade and a mix of traditional and contemporary elements. Sorry, I wasn't able to get a pic.

Hate hate hate that the garage faces the street. Is there a minimum set back here?

Not sure if they had an option to do anything but a front garage, no alley and a small lot.

Yeah, and they're gonna have a helluva time getting in and out with all the backed-up traffic on that stretch on Skinker. Maybe part of the reason that lot was vacant for so long.

Is that a two-car garage or one? Looks kind of small

That house just doesn't quite know what it wants to be. Of course, it's not finished yet, so we'll see.
