Of course Kayak's Coffee is a booming business.  The left side of the building, which has been unoccupied and unfinished, is now starting to stir.  The student-pic window coverings are removed, ladders and lifts are parked inside, and there's a hefty stack of gypsum board next to the curved framing of a dividing wall.

It's about time! I hope it's something functional, like a quicky-mart or something of the like. It would be perfect for the nearby student population and MetroLink commuters.

Roly Poly was slated to go into that spot: but you see how well that company did. I even think Mayor Slay held a press conference there and was shown stuffing his face with some Roly Poly.

Are there any Roly Poly's even left in St. Louis?

IMHO a mini mart would do kick-ass business in that spot. Then again parking might be a problem.

I think there are enough people who could walk that it could work. The Loop doesn't have a mini-mart (unless you include the Shell Station) and neither does the CWE.

I'm pretty sure there is still one in Chesterfield and one near Manchester and 141.

I miss Roly Poly. I used to drive to SoCo for an occasional fix, but even those locations (one in Oakville and another near Saint Anthony's Hospital) have closed.

Now that I'm attending WashU, I'd love to have a RP so close to campus, but I'll just be satisfied if something useful/convenient pops up there.

So much for a mini-mart. What is it?

Parking? I don't think that is an issue. This area has plenty of residential to support the mart. And hungry college kids.

that space is a gallery, not a restaurant or convenience store.

StL Magazine: Kimchi Guys to open second location near Washington University

"The long, narrow 40-seat space inside will have a wall of counter seating to one side and a long banquette on the opposing wall. So plans to "double down on the convenience factor by adding a takeout window on the side of the building," he says."

I love that they are adding a takeout window. I just hope it will be open late night, at least on weekends. This city needs a few dozen more of them.

Heh. That was fast.

I thought there was a different thread for this building, but can't find it. Should probably change the name of the thread though, as it's no longer Kayaks...
