Quite frankly, you don't know what you're talking about, and you're badly showing it.

I'm glad you mentioned Wichita. Lawrence, KS believes it has a good chance at being a host city.

I thought the host cities were already set...  If not, I think getting a WC game would be unlikely BUT it isn't that far fetched.  They should be able to bring in sod like they did for the Real Madrid/InterMilan game.  My understanding was it was a little tight but honestly is Arrowhead or Soldier field any less tight.  NY and Philly also seem pretty narrow.  Seattle, Boston, Miami, Tampa Bay and Charlotte seem to have NFL stadiums well suited to Soccer.

It may come down to feet and inches and also money, namely Chicago NY SF LA and Philly will get games because they are Chicago NY SF LA and Philly.  Everyone else better have a stadium well suited to soccer.
Chicago lost out lol Kansas City beat them and Denver out.
Chicago didn’t pursue a bid. They didn’t want to play ball with FIFA’s financial demands.

Kansas City is more world renowned than Chicago -- not sure if you've heard.

They don't have any European flights, even like St. Louis, but it's okay because they're thinking about BRT these days. No renderings, no actionable plan, nothing. But they're thinking about it.

Twellman was on 101 espn today saying he would be stunned by what he is hearing if STL isn’t at the forefront of cities countries want to make their home base during the World Cup.
Sorry but I've reread that sentence a number of times and still can't understand.
  • Lots of countries want to use St. Louis as a training/travel base?
  • or
  • Nobody wants to use St. Louis as a training/travel base?

Chicago didn't bid because
  1. PTSD for the failed Olympics bid
  2. Soldier Field currently can't hold a regulation pitch or even be altered to do so.

I mean, maybe? I have no idea what the secondary concerns may have been. But a quick google search pulls up article after article outlining Chicago’s concerns with FIFA not providing basic assurances.

"The uncertainty for taxpayers, coupled with FIFA's inflexibility and unwillingness to negotiate, were clear indications that further pursuit of the bid wasn't in Chicago's best interests." - Rahm Emanuel in 2018.

Sorry for the confusion. From what he has heard he expects STL to be in high demand as a home base for teams. With 48 teams and 16 host cities I’d expect plenty of overflow. I’d guess central location would help us a bit. Shorter flights to get around to games. Plus the way the facility is set up, plus being new can’t hurt also.

I personally think Germany would make tons of sense. But we will see how it works out.

People can point to Taylor as being from STL but he is a pretty straight shooter and has the contacts that I don’t think he would say something that isn’t true. He has no problem calling people here/city/team out and isn’t one to sugarcoat things.

I guess people missed the part where STL is already one of the 48 team base camps that the joint bid included in its bid documents. (Go down to General Facilities section)

To be clear this are base camp “options”. They aren’t picking the actual ones until next year.

There actually are at least 84.
United Bid can already offer as many as 84 Team Base Camps. Before issuing the Team Base Camp Catalogue, the United Bid will work with FIFA to assess these Training Sites . We are confident that many additional sites could be added to our catalogue if we are chosen to host.

He thinks the US should make it theirs just based on central location, depending on where they play but that was more opinion on the USA part of it.
Twellman was raised in STL and is not being realistic. KC has a more central location, bigger fanbase, is currently more world renowned, has a new airport, and a BRT plan in motion. St Louis has LRT that's it. Let's be real if non World Cup cities can be the homebase, which is not happening bvecause it would inflate costs, than it would be Denver or Chicago before it would be a city smaller than Wichita... Besides it will either be LA (which actually has a futbola fanbase), NYC, or Mexico City (which is bigger than even NYC and has the largest futbola fanbaseof any city in Copa do Mundo '26. gtfoh

FIFA released a preliminary list of base camp cities on Wednesday, with 24 sites named including Saint Louis University in St. Louis.

St. Louis is among one of nine cities to be listed as a base camp site for the World Cup despite not being slated to host a match in 2026, joining Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Green Bay, Louisville, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, Irvine (CA) and Westfield (Indiana).

There are growing odds that the World Cup and its economic impact become seriously weakened by US global image. First the event is unaffordable. Second, growing global tension. Third might be immigration riots.

Tokyo Olympics in 2020? Probably not. But international travel would be significantly under the estimates if hosted today.

It would be wild if there were US protests during the World Cup, which I see as a possibility, but I largely still think that the World Cup will have massive crowds.

Russia and Qatar were the last two hosts and Saudi is coming up. So I don’t think FIFA minds much as long as they get their payout.

^ I don’t think FIFA will adjust. I think fans will adjust. There will of course be many fans no matter what but I believe there are variations of fans who are starting to reconsider whether it’s feasible.

It might legitimately be time for STL leaders to start having the discussion. STL is the nearest NFL sized stadium.

According to ESPN, there have been enough complaints about the summertime heat across America to cause FIFA players, coaches and the FIFPRO worldwide soccer players' union that FIFA is considering relocating the 2026 World Cup from America.

"We clearly believe that from a health and safety perspective, this (extreme heat) is something that must take priority over commercial interests with regards to the safety of the players," said FIFPRO spokesperson Alexander Bielefeld in comments included in ESPN's report. "Heat conditions are not happening in a vacuum. The debate on extreme heat is not happening in a vacuum. It's actually quite foreseeable."

"After heat concerns dominated the U.S.-based Club World Cup, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said covered stadiums will be used at the 2026 World Cup."

Hospitality (ie suite and luxury seat) tickets just went on sale. $1,400+ to get in the door at Arrowhead. Announcement says regular seats will be released in waves from September to December.

Growing rumors that England plans to select Kansas City for its home base. Could be great for the BA flight’s first year.

Would that be determined well before the groups are chosen? What if their group stage games were say in NY or LA? Why would they want to be based that far from where they are playing in their group stages. In any event, that's a huge deal for STL, as many England fans may take the direct flight into STL. Then again, if the group stage is played somewhere else, the fans would likely fly into that destination, not where the team is based.

Yes, the teams are on their own to pick home bases. It’s a combination of wanting to book the best facilities before others do, training environment, and location (being in the center of the country has some benefits).

Seeding for actual games is later, believe December of this year.

That makes sense, since pre-WC training would be over once Group Stages start so the teams would abandon their training locations & head to whatever location the 1st four Group Stage games will be played at. So it would be safe to assume most teams will head to their training base fairly early/well before group stages begin. That could lead to fans going to the base city first, then heading out to the location of group stage games as well.
