Huge house in the city...
Can you get me a job somewhere?

Can you get me a job somewhere?
^Schools, yard, privacy, family, friends, small town atmosphere, noise, crime, to name a few.
Of course, none of that effects me, I just don't understand why its so hard for some people to understand that some people just don't want to live in the city. Just like we can't understand why they want to live in the suburbs.

doug is just really excited about St. louis and passionate about it's success. And sometimes that makes it hard for him to understand why others don't share his feelings.
well that or it was just rhetorical question?
EDIT: Hope you don't take offense to my generalization Doug, I too am guilty...

As do many on this board, I have family/friends who live in small towns. I lived for 18 years in a town of 6K, another 8+ years in a town of 60K and now here for 3 years - I've lived in some great places and they've all had their positives. But here's my problem: I think there's an anti-social, anti-empathy for fellow humans that foments in the suburbs/less dense areas. I don't want to make this a personal judgement at all and I have a deep love for my home town and many people there, but people who do not interact with different socio-economic and ethnic groups on a daily basis seem to me to display less empathy, less tolerance and less caring about fellow people. I just had a lengthy conversation about St. Louis with someone from (and still in) my hometown. He's very intelligent, but he said things like "I don't think I'd be confortable living around blacks. I'm sure some of them of just like the rest of us, but I've just never known any." I haven't found this sentiment to be the exception. I think the city makes people uncomfortable because they can't ignore difficult social issues: why ARE there so many people cruising around on motorized wheelchairs in the CWE and WHY are they often on the street? Why did that person just ask me for change? Why is nearly everyone at this grocery a minority, why are so many obese and why are they buying junk food. Did that woman just use foodstamps? Why IS that guy peeing on a street corner? Seeing the city and asking these questions can lead to being more involved in the lives of others, how we live and what type of world this will become.
And they write off these social issues as being inherent to City living. That is one of the reasons people don't want to live here. They see bums and people being shot, thus equate the City to bums and crime. I would argue that if they lived here our crime and homeless problem could be addressed in a more effective manner. Social institutions, and tax yield, in many neighborhoods degraded when the middle class left the City.
What I was saying before was reflecting the quality and uniqueness of the housing. But I guess some people do not have taste. Which is why applebees is so popular.

I understand what you were saying Doug, and I agree.
And I'm not too fond of Applebee's, but Red Lobster on the other hand...

Applebees has the best chicken strip platter around...and spinach and artichoke dip. NOW im offended
Any way, me personally? I want my child to grow around blacks, mexicans, etc. I grew up in an all-white town that is very racist and I don't want my child to grow up around people like that.

I don't understand, you could be living in a nice clean suburb? Why would you want to live in that crappy city house?
Oh wait...

63104mom, when is your house going to be on National Open House? I've set up the DVR to record the show.

I'm soon to be movin' to the 63104 from the 110 (Southwest Garden). I love Shaw but having been there 5 yrs. I'm ready to explore a new neighborhood. And while I'm fairly familiar with Soulard, the Benton Park area is like a new Christmas present I'm opening up.
At least that's how a geek like me looks at it

The robust walks to the Loop and CWE arent a bad thing for me, really...and they are equidistant.

I checked the August schedule and there's nothing with St. Louis for August. I am guessing the fall?
southsidepride- we love 63104: Laf. Sq., McK heights, most of Soulard, some of Benton Park, Lasalle, Fox Park, Compton Heights, and I think part of Tower Grove East. It's quite a zip code.
Thank you for the kind words on our house. I didn't expect such a response.
