Sad to see Southside Spaces (I assume based on public records and management postings) erased the cool art that really added a lot of creative fun and energy to the very much in need Gravois Park neighborhood.

Me and a friend were just recently talking about how great the art was and how awesome it was to have in the neighborhood. The art was cool, really well done and not at all offensive in any way. It was an interesting and inspiring, colorful little spot that made a boring structure way more unique and intriguing.

My heart dropped when I saw the art erased. Now it's just an industrial dark grey cinder block island in a sea of blacktop surrounded by a giant fence. The color pallet is downright brutal compared to the vibrancy of before.

The white with stripes photo shown here is from years ago. The mural photo is from weeks ago. I'd post a current picture but I don't want to embarrass the poor building any further.

I can only hope that new art is being planned and or painted as we speak and the positive energy will soon be restored! First the two buildings across the street burn down and now this place gets smoked out in grey.

Two steps back.
Too bad.

South Side Spaces does a ton of great rehab/reuse work, and a bunch of their buildings are decorated with art. I'm ecstatic that they bought it. Hardly "two steps back." More like ten steps forward.

Yep. They have. Thank you for making my point, I guess?

Do you live in the areas where they invest?

They do usually do cool things. This building was an example of that.

Pretty sure they have owned this for years. Even while it was cool. That was the point.

Now, after years of being cool, they have decided to make it boring. Honestly, have you seen it? I forgive you for not remembering, even if you have. it is that nondescript.

Which makes it all the more baffling that they went this direction (dull and lifeless) when the neighborhood is being actively infused with artists.

Now it is an example of a generic cinderblock building with very little if any character. It just blends in.

Sad to see it go. The neighborhood lost something cool (along with the buildings diagonally to fire). This corner really lost a lot of character in a very short time.

And with artist homes being built right down the street and all around you would think that art would be more locally appreciated and valued. As a resident, I had certainly had hoped so.

Maybe with more artists coming in, we'll see more cool stuff. We can only hope.

I appreciate Southside Spaces, but this is a misstep in my opinion.  It's okay to not like everything someone or something does or says.

Net good is only a good start.
