Two things:

1. West County mall will be adding more retail and restaurants but they are adding them outside of the mall. The parking garage outside of Macy's will be transformed in the front on the street level and top level for retail and dining. (there's a rendering inside the mall). Further along that strip towards Nordstrom's will be some other additions. Looks good and should be open by Dec 2007

2. The Galleria sucks. Went there tonight to go shopping and it really has become a major disappointment, despite the asthetic changes to the food court. The Macy's doesn't have the new clothing lines yet and a lot of the stores have a cheap smaller mall feel to them. IMO, West County mall is surpassing the Galleria, which is really sad. In most cities, Galleria's are the premier shopping destination from a mall perspective.

That's all I got. You stay classy, St.Louis

The Galleria sucks.

That's a little strong, but you're right GGP's marketing does leave something to be desired.

The Macy's doesn't have the new clothing lines yet

Macy's said up front there would be a 20 to 30 pecent difference in clothing lines. That's not much when you subtract the store brand lines of clothes.

They have started the exterior demolition for this project. It also appears that the designs have changed.

Probably because Westfield no longer owns the mall. I'm guessing the new owners changed things up.

The link above doesn't work anymore, since Westfield sold West County Mall to CBL. Here is a link to the new web site:

Within the new site, there is a link (under mall facts) to ineresting Demographics .pdf file for the surrounding area. It includes income maps, density maps, population change maps etc. Here is the link:

Wow, they really are tearing apart that old Lord & Taylor. I am guessing it will be gone by this weekend. :(

Guess they don't plan on anyone from the city shopping there.

^ You mean that doughnut hole on the map is actually the City of Saint Louis?

West County Center is often our mall of choice, as my wife and I like the variety of stores better than closer malls like South County and near-dead Crestwood Plaza, and the Galleria doesn't have a playground, so West County often wins out whenever we're shopping with our son.

But hey, it's nice to know CBL values our business so much! :)

I assume the plans have changed since new ownership took over(btw when was that?). New renderings or plans?

Frankly, I would've been happier to see Dillard's move into the Lord & Taylor space since they have drastically reduced their presence in the area in the last several years. However, Barnes & Noble will be a nice addition to the mall.

I generally don't like lifestyle centers, and it seems pointless whenever indoor malls convert part of their space into a lifestyle center. However, in most cases, it's simply a row or cluster of stores facing the front of the mall. And there are some examples in which it's enhanced the overall environment of malls- Battlefield Mall in Springfield (Mo.) added a row of stores and restaurants between Macy's and Dillard's parallel to Glenstone Avenue like Banana Republic and J. Buck's, and it's a nice change IMHO.

Looks like Barnes & Noble and BRAVO! Cucina Italiana will be coming to West County Mall.

Barnes & Noble Booksellers and BRAVO! Cucina Italiana will be part of the redevelopment of a 90,000-square-foot portion of West County Center into an open-air “lifestyle wing” and main entrance to the mall in Des Peres.

The redevelopment, which is taking place at the location of the former Lord & Taylor store, is expected to be completed by this year’s holiday season.

The Italian restaurant is owned by BRAVO! Development Inc., which is also the owner of the BRIO Tuscan Grill at Plaza Frontenac. This is the first BRAVO! restaurant in the St. Louis area and it will be part of a cluster of four restaurants with both indoor and outdoor seating at the West County Center. The names of the other restaurants have not yet been released

A Bravo Cucina Italiana restaurant and a McCormick & Schmick's steak and seafood spot are soon to open in West County Center, and the mall has a letter of intent from an unnamed eatery and is in negotiations with another.

Last week my wife braved the Black Friday crowds and informed me that Barnes and Noble is now open on the mall's second level in the former Lord and Taylor store.

I realize this is only a replacement of the store that was located at Manchester and Lindeman roads for years, but I think this is better for B&N and customers alike as it will be more convenient to shop there while people are already at the mall, so I think it's great news! 8)

I agree that its a nicer replacement. The old store was just old and harder to get to. As for the Waldenbooks near the JCPenney wing, I wonder how long it will last.
