Does anyone else see the irony of NIMBYs complaining about traffic, noise, pollution, etc. and then in the next breath demand even more parking spaces?

Idiots.

Or complaining about entry and egress difficulty and congestion, but wanting to keep Clara, Kingsbury, and Waterman blocked? Or that Clara is too narrow to open it at Delmar, yet an opened Clara will lead to drag racing?

I'm taking a beating on Nextdoor!

Had the same thought too.

“It’s already tough to get around the neighborhood.”

Ok...now ask yourself why. Sounds like some of these people would be happier on a large lot in a quiet subdivision in Wentzville.

The rents are too high; no one will live there! But there's not enough parking!

^ same self-serving, hypocritical bullsh*t every time. "charm" = exclusion because it's "their" neighborhood and jesus said they should be able to park their stupid f*cking SUVs right at their doorsteps. but nobody else, of course, because "pollution" and "runoff" and "light" and "reasons"... oh, my pearls! and then there's always the guy who's like "every NIMBY opinion is sacred," no matter how baseless and transparently selfish. god, we need progressive, city-wide zoning to shut these people the hell up.

Or "Don't call me a NIMBY, That's mean." Well when you employ strategies and tropes that met the definition, than it's a fair descriptor.

My dad lived at Waterman & Clara around 2001-'03. I never had a problem parking on the 5600 block of Waterman. I mean literally never had to go to another block to find parking and usually could park directly outside his building. That was a while ago now, but I don't think things have changed a whole lot since then.

To SeattleNative's point, there should be more flexibility within such close proximity to Metrolink stations.

yep. also liked the "if you want an urban neighborhood there are lots of others to choose from" comment. it's like satire. these people are f*cking caricatures.

A block north at Kingsbury and Clara. Guess we should tear this down because it’s taller than its neighbors.

It would  certainly help alleviate the parking problem.

Can someone post a site plan? I'm concerned about the lack of maintaining the existing building line. Why do they feel they need a variance?

Site photos. And to see what views would be like from the 5th floor, I sent the drone up to 54ft and took the view photos and video.

The plan is for 5 floors, just under 54 feet high.

^Great photos! And some great views from up there. I guess these would be rooftop views as the proposal is for a 5 story 54 foot building.

I doubt the views will be too much different. Even if One Hundred and some of the CWE skyline is covered up, it doesn't really matter. It's still a nice view, especially since southern facing units will be able to see the trees in Forest Park.

Rooftop view at 605 Clara was phenomenal. Great sightlines to Art Hill, the Loop, the CWE, and Downtown. No better place to watch fireworks on the 4th. I was constantly up there despite it technically being off limits.

Now they're imagining lost parking garages. Anyone recall there being eight parking garages nearby?

You mean people are actually lamenting the loss of (either real or imagined) parking garages? Dear lord.

Maybe they're thinking of some of the surface lots that have been replaced by developments over the years (e.g. the TriBeCa, Chelsea, Expo, Annex at 275), all of which have structured parking?

Maybe
Parking is my biggest concern. Years ago there were 8 parking garages in the area. Maybe someone should build a few parking garages to accommodate all these cars. The building at DeBaliviere and DeGiverville will have 236 spaces, not enough, we fear, to take care of all the occupants of the building plus commercial business visitors .
