For a second I wasn't sure all these pics were from Washington Avenue. Capoeira Brasil at 1317 Washington Avenue has a 618 area code in the window, but the street light post gave it away. http://www.capoeirastl.org

Wow, it so refreshing to see all the new life in that area. Without fear of dating myself, back in the late 80's we would go down to 1227 and Twist to party and then get the hell out of there. Very exciting to see what's going on, hope to get back to St. Louis soon so I can see all the changes for myself.

The old days on Wash Ave were talked about in another thread, while I like all the improvements, there was something cool and creepy about the way it use to be. The old "12" was really an underground, off the radar type place, that catered to just about any subculture group there was, but was open enough for the main stream.

A smidge over three years later, it's fun to see how much (and how little) has changed.

The changes are subtle, appearance-wise, but substantial in terms of the impact they've had on downtown.

It's always fun to go back and look at the "before" pics. Xing (I believe) had some good ones from before and during the streetscape improvements.

The benches suck. Seems like a good idea, but who can sit down and relax with buses driving by at 30mph less than two feet away?

I guess that would make it hard to relax...especially considering how Metro bus drivers drive downtown, not that I've been cut off by them 4,019,029 times or anything.

What awesome pictures. My gosh...these are SO CLEAR!! Great job on these! What kind of camera do you have? I've put off buying a good digital camera because I can't get good pictures like these.

I've been on Washington Avenue so much, that it's more of a shock for me to see images of the street in the past, than it is to see images of it today. It certainly has transformed into an integral part of St. Louis, hasn't it?

A few more humans on those streetscapes would be good.

it is now - have you been to Wash Ave? These photos were 4 years ago taken on a Sunday A.M.

It's amazing in four years what's on this street now.
