I think the live music Friday's is a good idea that should have come much earlier..... along with the National Blues Museum progress it also makes me wonder how far a big push for live music (as opposed to nightclubs) could take downtown, with Wash Ave as the main beneficiary. In addition to more establishments participating in and expanding live music offerings, I'm thinking a first Wednesday closure of Wash Ave a la Austin's Congress Street with music and shops open late, frequent live Blues inside and out of the Museum (OPO Plaza? in the CVB lot?), a well-booked American/Orpheum theater bringing in larger acts, etc. etc. Numerous options and frequent bookings that will assure there will be something exciting just about every day of the week.

In combination with existing assets elsewhere such as the Peabody, S. Broadway, BPV, etc. and the hope for very successful Memorial and Labor Day music fesitivals, being able to credibly market Wash Ave and downtown as the "Midwest's Live Music Capital" could be quite fruitful.

roger, these are great ideas. I think closing the street once a month and bringing Orpheum online would begin to amplify Wash Ave as the place to go for live music and allow it to compete with BPV as the place to go for sports.
