Does anyone have any inside information as to the future of Washington Ave from like 14th to 6th street. It is the worst looking paved street in the city I think. It is embarrassing to look at. Seems like they are paving every street except wash ave. Is the city planning more dig projects which is why they wont pave it?

I think Broadway by the dome and a few blocks south has something to say about that...it IS HORRIBLE...

^ I rarely complain about or even take notice of bad roads but Broadway downtown is especially bad the last few days. They've routed out around manholes and filled it back in with gravel. I'm guessing this might be resurface prep? (I have no idea, this is just a guess). It just seems like a really poor design though. The gravel is constantly flying around hitting other cars and as it vacates the routed out area they effectively turn into huge potholes.

routing out around manholes is usually the first step before a resurface.... i wish the city published an annual schedule of resurfacing jobs....they just did a bunch in south city on random roads...like Nottingham thru South Hampton...half a mile stretch of Delor from S. Grand to Spring by the new St.marys h/s baseball field. Morganford from Gravois to Chippewa...Macklind from Chippewa to Southwest.

Try Big Bend between 40/64 and Manchester. I've been on better roads in rural Jamaica.

It may get worse on Wash Ave. Rumor has it discussions are being had to put a left turn lane on eastbound Washington at Tucker. Assuming so traffic can turn easier to get to the bridge. I think it's a horrible idea. We need to make downtown more pedestrian centric, not auto centric.

I was wondering if it is possible instead to make it a one-way street and then have a nearby parallel street go the opposite direction.

That's thinking small. Drivers should be forced to snake through a series of one-ways all throughout the city, like a giant Aldi.

^Yeah, one-way streets are pretty bad for retail, too.

Ameren is under obligation to resurface the majority of Washington Ave by November 1, 2014 as part of it's multi-year underground renewal initiative (which is hopefully about finished up along this corridor).

I believe it was KMOV that had a report yesterday on the Broadway conditions... I believe I heard them say that it should be done by end of September and that the Beatles concert at the Dome had something to do with delaying it.

The streets will also be getting Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps at intersections.
A lot of these along Broadway and 4th have been done earlier this summer. If I recall correctly the ramps before were on the corners and basically dumped wheelchair users into the street (which of course seems dangerous and insensitive at best). The new corners have two ramps - one at each crosswalk - perpendicular to the street.
