There's a lot of regret being expressed these days about the imminent demise of a real gem on W. Belle in N. City. Folks are bummed about the demolition. It was just approved by the Preservation Commission.
Once again, the focus is misplaced. We shouldn't be disappointed with the demolition. We should be addressing the lack of attention and bad stewardship of the building that led to its demo.
If we want fewer demolitions of historic buildings we need a stronger system to address vacancy and abandonment.
