StlToday - Bush brings millions in federal earmarks to St. Louis, while some Republicans take a pass
The last stop of Bush’s celebration tour Wednesday was a large, empty lot in The Ville neighborhood in north St. Louis. Folding chairs were set up in the grass facing a sign with a large, shiny building on it that said “Coming Soon.”

CareSTL was given the abandoned land. It’s where the health care organization serving those on Medicaid or without insurance will build its new $10 million medical facility and headquarters that will include a pharmacy, kitchen and community auditorium. Construction is slated to begin in August.

^ nice.  I love earmarks, esp. ones that actually help people.

And the building permit for 60 new construction units at St. Louis Ave & Newstead is for an LIHTC project called Alumnus Gardens.

^ & ^^ I'm indifferent on earmarks as my big thing is that Senators & Congressmen/women on both side of the aisle need to get back to delivering  a Federal budget on time.   Work for a contracting who does a fair share of Federal projects but my employer also has a material group that also provides material on a fair share of local and state projects that are in part funded by and dictated by highway trust fund..    Their is real consequences and delays that happen every year because continuing resolutions might sound good but a lot of actions are put on hold

It also interesting to note that Roy Blount, retiring, carried water for some of his fellow Missouri politicians.   Go all in on earmarks so the junior senator can play to his base IMO.  Nifty political move..

58 apartments are being planned for the Simmons School Building in the Ville neighborhood.
Apartments proposed at former school in north St. Louis
Simmons Squared LLC has plans to add 26 one-bedroom and 32 two-bedroom apartments to the 123-year-old building, at 4318 St. Louis Avenue, south of Natural Bridge Avenue. Rent would be $1,250-$2,000, according to a meeting agenda from the city’s Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority.

The $18.5 million proposal for the school, which closed in 2009, is part of a broader plan from Fleur De Lis Development Corp. to bring new housing to the neighborhood. The LCRA signed off on the plan in 2021 with a redevelopment agreement with the company that includes tax abatement.

This project is poised to receive 25 years of tax abatement, according to LCRA’s agenda.

I'm pleased to see development proposed for the Ville but $1,250 for a 1 bedroom apartment in that neighborhood? You can pay less than that for a nice unit in the Central West End, doesn't seem viable to me.

Oh great, another Family Dollar!  The Metro area needs to place a moratorium on these types of stores.

$8M building permit issued to construct new 3-story multi-fam building at 4457 St Louis Ave. 52 apartments. Alumnus Gardens by CareSTL
Looks like another giant setback. Why oh why? Wouldn't a backyard be nice?

I guess that rendering is the builing that's already built. It was hard to tell since the rendering left out the uninviting fence.

Maybe this is it, though it looks more like the wellness center than an apartment building

^At least it's more attractive than either the other rendering or the thing actually sitting nearby. Though in both cases I could stand to see it closer to the sidewalk and with some trees shading the sidewalk.
