Wouldn’t love this. Amongst suburban developments, I’d like to see the BLVD get fully built out. It is slightly better execution of mixed use development and TOD than most of the stuff that has happened in the county outside of downtown Clayton. But they may have given up building the final phases, I don’t know.

Sent an email to Crate and Barrel corporate two weeks ago about the post of them leaving Boulevard to Frontenac.

My reply was this...

"We have no projections of moving or opening a new location in the Saint Louis market."

Maybe DB has more info?

"Neiman Marcus is expected to absorb the space to focus its brand operations at the plaza."

The Galleria area is no longer the destination shopping area that it used to be, and likely will not be again.  The Galleria doesn't have many exclusive and high end stores like it used to, and the few that is has left are looking to make a move,  Nordstrom has closed, Anthropologie moved to Plaza Frontenac and Urban Outfitters is about to close and relocate to West County Mall this summer.  When new retailers look to enter the St. Louis market, the Galleria is no longer the spot.. its now Plaza Frontenac or West County Mall and once Downtown Chesterfield starts to open, it will be at the top of the list for these exclusive retailers.

Plaza Frontenac faces a drive to issue as well, though it could easily be redeveloped into a mixed use district that could work with the existing grocery and hotel and offices it has. I think they could do some tasteful medium density housing in the lots and it will thrive over time on its own

It's a bummer because despite how the galleria isn't built to be pedestrian friendly, it is the most accessible mall by public transit. Same goes for the Boulevard.

There is so much room for improvement between dtown Clayton and Galleria...in such a short stretch of only just over 3,000 feet you have numerous issues that prevent meaningful connectivity. For starters, you have a suburban style office park that eats up a third at least of the street frontage. Then you have a massive vacant lot just south of the parkway. Two autocentric features right at Clayton and Brentwood being the bix box CVS and the sea of parking at the corner. Then you have added complications such as the one off-ramp from 170 and the weird triangle block between Brentwood And Francis...in which btw, Francis you cannot make a left turn from when coming south on it. 

Lastly, no connection between the Metrolink and Brentwood Blvd. Having some sort of stairway or ramp between them would be game changing for that strip.

Yeah I have a whole list of relatively small construction projects they could do to Metrolink to make it better, would make things a lot easier if they provided a walkway from the Richmond Heights Metrolink to Clayton rd.

As much as this Enterprise development might be evil, I'd just to remind you that that parcel was never residential or retail. Up until the late 1980's it was the old St. Louis County Hospital grounds.

The Nordstrom brothers were in town recently to take a look at the soon to be vacant Saks space.  If they were do decide to open at Frontenac, it would be a relocation of the West County Center store, not an additional location and would be one of their higher end stores with designer collections.

If Nordstrom passes on the space, the site will be subdivided and for multiple tenants.  Don't look for Von Maur to open here, as it doesn't fit the demographics of the area. 

Also, Urban Outfitters is relocating from the Galleria to West County Center in September. The new store is currently under construction.

The Plaza Frontenac demographic is higher end than what Von Maur targets.  Von Maur basically sells the same products and brands that you can find in a Dillards or Macys, such as Coach, Michael Kors and Polo Ralph Lauren. If anyone is looking for these brands, they already have a Dillards at the Galleria and two Macys locations nearby, West County and Galleria to shop at.  Von Maur isn't going to bring anything new or different to the market. In fact, the Dillards at the Galleria carries higher end brands than Von Maur does.

The Plaza Frontenac core demo is looking for higher end designers such as Saint Laurent, Dior, Valentine and Prada.  While the STL market is big enough to support stand alone stores for these brands, there was/is enough for these items to be sold in a department store setting.  The St. Louis Saks Fifth Avenue didn't close because it wasn't profitable, it closed because Saks owned the land and building and needed the cash to help their liquidity while the Neiman Marcus store at Frontenac is leased from GGP and is a very profitable location for them.

Would be perfect for a Zara or Uniqlo, but I would imagine Zara or Uniqlo would choose West County if/when they come to St. Louis.
