I think Trump could nuke a couple of foreign cities plus build massive internment camps in the US and there'd still be incredible demand for World Cup tickets.

Millions traveled to Qatar to watch the WC in 110+ degree temps in stadiums built by slaves during the last one. Soccer fans are just too numerous and clearly plenty don't care.

I stand corrected. Forgot there were 8 billion people and half are soccer crazed.
At current rate, many countries in EU could refuse to play in the US as a form of tariff or sanction.

Sounds like #2 ranked Argentina has picked KC for their home base. #4 ranked England also had internally approved plans for KC and #7 Netherlands is believed to as well.

“ That’s important following the news that Argentina reportedly is eying Kansas City for its base camp.”
“Eyeing” doesn’t exactly come across to me as they picked KC. More that they have it in the mix and they are still deciding. If it is their first choice I wish the author would have just come out and said it.

It’s looking unlikely that we will get any team here. About 18 left to pick (4 haven’t qualified yet)
One thing I noticed is that SLU was paired with magnolia hotel and city park with chase but now it’s SLU/chase and city park and LeMeridien in Clayton

Couldn't even get one team here. Just further proof to other cities that we really do suck.
When we were just announced one of 6 cities in the country to host Olympic games? That attitude is a big part of the problem
Edit: Also, what city (aside from maybe someone in KC) is looking at this list and saying "Wow, no St. Louis? They really must suck." No one thinks like that. No self-esteem

Well there are still about 14 teams needing camps - There were always a lot more potential sites then teams.
I thought KC was good for 2 - that they got 3, and who they got is amazing. That is going to be a lot of foreign press camping out there

They are going to end up with 4. Algeria is going to likely base there also. I am impressed they got England since they aren't playing there. The others make more sense.beer city wrote: ↑4:05 AM - Feb 17Well there are still about 14 teams needing camps - There were always a lot more potential sites then teams.

four would be crazy given that they had 3 sites - Along with press that could really start cutting into the hotel supply which was strained already.jshank83 wrote: ↑4:13 AM - Feb 17They are going to end up with 4. I don’t think it’s all that surprising that STL hasn’t had a team announce. They aren’t a host and outside of maybe STL City’s grounds don’t have anything standout. This has no reflection on St Louis as a city or its other event hosting assets. Kansas City has focused on building soccer fandom and infrastructure for a few decades now.jshank83 wrote:They are going to end up with 4. Algeria is going to likely base there also. So far, the teams have selected smaller hotels that you probably wouldn’t have seen on a “Guide to KC.”beer city wrote:four would be crazy given that they had 3 sites - Along with press that could really start cutting into the hotel supply which was strained already.jshank83 wrote: ↑4:13 AM - Feb 17They are going to end up with 4. I did think someone would want to use CITY’s complex. It’s new, compact, and in the city so close to plenty of amenities. Plenty of hotel options from the Four Seasons to lower tiered hotels. STL like KC is a central location that is easy to get to host cities from.ldai_phs wrote: ↑4:23 AM - Feb 17I don’t think it’s all that surprising that STL hasn’t had a team announce. Is it possible they weren't willing to make it available to another team?jshank83 wrote: ↑5:58 AM - Feb 17I did think someone would want to use CITY’s complex. Yea it’s possible. I think other MLS Clubs including Sporting KC are giving theirs up and given STL City is hosting the Olympics I’d assume they would be okay with it too.Otthouse wrote:Is it possible they weren't willing to make it available to another team?jshank83 wrote: ↑5:58 AM - Feb 17I did think someone would want to use CITY’s complex. Hotels are assigned as I mentioned about. Chase and SLU campus and Le Méridien Clayton and CityParkjshank83 wrote: ↑5:58 AM - Feb 17I did think someone would want to use CITY’s complex. Croatia is at a high school in the north east
Sorta. Those pairing are suggestions and the teams are feee to negotiate their own training center / hotel pairings. In KC you see hotels and training facilities not on the radar before being picked.dbInSouthCity wrote:Hotels are assigned as I mentioned about. Eh... KC getting the games, and subsequently base camps, probably had more to do with a FIFA payout favor to the Hunt family for Lamar's contributions to the game - MLS probably would not have made it if not for himldai_phs wrote: ↑4:23 AM - Feb 17I don’t think it’s all that surprising that STL hasn’t had a team announce. “This story, Kansas Citians say — the story of how their overlooked town became the base camp capital of the World Cup — begins with money. It begins with some $650 million invested in soccer infrastructure across the metro area since 2009, money that built the fields and facilities where Argentina, England and the Netherlands will soon train.”
“And for the region, benefits are already evident. Kansas City is on the map. At this World Cup, it will be more visible than Boston, than Seattle, perhaps even Philadelphia and Atlanta.”
