Sponsoring a terminal seems like a perfect opportunity for Enterprise to both support the region and gain some advertising/press with a ton of folks who are likely to need a rental car...

Build a Bear St. Louis Airport at Boeing Field. Come park in the enterprise garage connected to the terminal.

Sporting KC trash cans are to be reserved solely for homeless encampments.

I can see it now ... QuikTrip Stl Airport. Dirt Cheap runway L. Onder Law runway R.

Ugh, can we just tax the rich to pay for a new terminal?

Or maybe find someone who is incredibly narcissistic that can provide money for it one way or the other and then pull a fast one on them to undo the naming of the airport after them when they pass away.

I go through lambert every two weeks at a minimum. It’s an easy, functional airport. The A and C gates aren’t that different from the E and F gates at ORD, we actually have higher ceilings than those concourses. Our T2 has plenty of light and with some upgrades I think it’s fine. It’s just at/over capacity for WN. I like the idea above of building something nice with fewer gates and leave T2 open for a while until you can build more. Southwest and its clientele are their own thing and can stay separated from everything else indefinitely.

Looks like HB2931 would prevent the city of St. Louis from taking money out of the airport going forward.

Meanwhile Stl County laughs all the way to the bank to deposit the sales taxes they collect.

Jshank can correct me but I think that is actually normal and St. Louis has been a unique outlier. Most cities are also required to reinvest airport revenues back into the airport. It's a fairly small amount.

Correct. STL is grandfathered in

From KMOV interview with Eric Schmitt

Airline hub potential

Schmitt sees opportunities for Lambert to become a hub for multiple airlines, particularly Southwest and potentially American Airlines.

“Southwest, though, is the growth opportunity. And there’s little things that are these conversations, right? Southwest is now partnering with international carriers. St. Louis is about their #4 airport. So you might have more connectivity for international routes because of who they’re connecting with to go other places,” he said.

He also noted conversations with American Airlines leadership, though without specific commitments.

“Well, I’m just advocating for it. There were no commitments, but this is what I do. This is the stuff that doesn’t often get reported, but we’re talking to those folks all the time,” Schmitt said.

I’m shocked he’s even saying this.

Considering he thinks STL is Southwests #4 airport, not sure how far I’d take it. More like 12th-ish.

Here's the Senator full interview with KMOV.  My main question; can he get money out of the Trump administration to cover the $2B over budget concerns?

This is news, right?
"The new terminal is still in the design phase. First renderings should be ready in February."

The loophole should have been closed a long time ago. With had much debt as the airport has had all money should have been going to that.

Sounds like an interview with someone who isn’t very informed on the subject

It’s still top 10 until March when the route cuts happen. Don’t push us down the list early!

It's quite reasonable to me given that the airport isn't within city limits, so no sales tax revenue.

Spoke to someone on the airport commission, didn’t seem all that concerned about estimate being high, said they’ll figure it out and find extra money if needed

I hope that’s right. I agree that this is the chance to get it done right.

So stupid that people in power thought the free money would last forever and we waited to build this until the cost of capital doubled (or more)

This is a once in a generation opportunity, and needs to be done right or not at all until we are able to execute appropriately.  I am optimistic to see renderings as I know HOK produces world class airport designs.
