What's the point of posting something like that? (For Joe Buck)
Where is that, TSA @ Concourse A?
I only wish T2 was like that, we had 50+ in the TSA Pre-check line when I flew a couple of weeks ago.

If we go with what SLC spent per gate, we are at $3.36b for 62 gates and I think our budget was probably $2.0b for 62 gates. (Rest of the money is for design, enabling projects etc)
I heard they were around 2 billion over so that somewhat lines updbInSouthCity wrote: ↑8:15 PM - Jan 17If we go with what SLC spent per gate, we are at $3.36b for 62 gates and I think our budget was probably $2.0b for 62 gates. (Rest of the money is for design, enabling projects etc)
I don’t get it either. One of those what’s the point for him to post itjtlq53 wrote: ↑7:21 PM - Jan 17What's the point of posting something like that? (For Joe Buck)
2024 was the best year in over 2 decades. 2025 will be down a hair but not much when final numbers come out.
Not related but Southwest is adding nonstops to Indy for the final four. One a day each way for three days.
SLC was UC from 2014-2020. STL roughly 2026-2031. You need to inflate SLC by like 60-70%…dbInSouthCity wrote:If we go with what SLC spent per gate, we are at $3.36b for 62 gates and I think our budget was probably $2.0b for 62 gates. (Rest of the money is for design, enabling projects etc)
Not completely comparable in scale, but Des Moines, IA is currently building a new terminal (headhouse and 11 gates) for around +$600m that will be complete in 2029 and is pretty much a long rectangle.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑8:15 PM - Jan 17If we go with what SLC spent per gate, we are at $3.36b for 62 gates and I think our budget was probably $2.0b for 62 gates. Joe Buck is the only person I have ever seen complain about not waiting in security
Anyway, we have the worst rich people of any large metro in the country.
Why are the estimates so way out of whack? Are they trying to build some Singapore-like super airport? Or is it because our local unions, construction companies and politicians are so corrupt?jshank83 wrote: ↑3:39 AM - Jan 18I heard they were around 2 billion over so that somewhat lines updbInSouthCity wrote: ↑8:15 PM - Jan 17If we go with what SLC spent per gate, we are at $3.36b for 62 gates and I think our budget was probably $2.0b for 62 gates. Everything here is the worst. Everything St. Louis sucks.JaneJacobsGhost wrote:Anyway, we have the worst rich people of any large metro in the country.
Initial estimates on something like this are beyond ballpark initially + were made during the heart of COVID inflation.dweebe wrote:Why are the estimates so way out of whack? No, that’s not true. STL offers so many incredible things. But our blue bloods take zero ownership in approving things.dweebe wrote: ↑7:36 PM - Jan 18Why are the estimates so way out of whack? Get lost. I was 75% sure you were a KCrag poster. Now I’m 98%. sarcasm...maybedweebe wrote: Everything here is the worst. Everything St. Louis sucks.
I can’t wait for the renderings to be released to reveal a completely reasonable airport renovation. All this crying y’all are doing is hilarious.
Joe Bucks post is as stupid as he is. Nothing about a hub (connecting traffic) would increase security lines.

By the way, here is a prefilled bill by a St. Charles County representative which allows the state to appropriate money to the Missouri-St. Louis Metropolitan Airport Authority. The State is currently not allowed to do that.

The rich in Detroit and Cleveland do more tbh.
We better fix downtown before Cleveland fixes theirs so we don’t become a national punchline.

IDK. I went to Cleveland recently for a Maroon 5 concert and I was impressed with thier downtown. There was the arena, ballpark and Casino all within walking distance. There was the lake front with the Browns stadium. Their theater district is downtown with a great big chandelier. People were out everywhere walking at 8 9 10 or laterFraydog wrote:The only two outliers.TheWayoftheArch_V2.0 wrote:Kranzbergs and Taylors excluded…

I *use* to enjoy reading these boards. But they have become exhausting and frustrating.
I feel like the naysayers have infiltrated these boards. This use to be a group to promote UrbanSTL and the positive focus of this great city... and it was for many years.
We have three pages of speculation, negative comments and superfluous spouting about nothing anyone *really* knows.
I stand next to HOK designing their hometown airport. I stand next to our airport Director telling everyone the current infrastructure has lasted longer than it was intended and we no longer can "renovate" the current structures (concourses) anymore. So we will *not* be getting a renovated airport. The timeline has been released (in ink) for the airports Concourse changes and closures (airline moves). The current two terminal configuration is costing more in duplication. We also are building on new international service and we will continue that, I am sure, with a new international arrivals area. We will also get 60 or more gates as current and future forecast needs are right where they should to be. STL metro is not dying, albeit slower growth, our place in corporate/commerce is strong and the needs of a strong and efficient international airport must be met... for today and for the future of the city in growth.
Do.we *really* need fancy cladded airport from the outside? Travelers cannot see the airport from the interstate as it is now ... just the domes... and that seems to be changing when they build the new gigantic tall garage to the south of them. I want an airport that can handle volume (look at T2 ...it's crazy busy), more efficient luggage handling, more moving walkways, more food courts and shopping options. Make it pretty inside where the people are. I think of any Concourse in Denver... that is what we need.

I've been reading the posts over on airliners.net and I agree with the take that jshank and others have in that I'd rather see an airport with fewer gates but wider concourses, larger seating areas and more amenities.
Also, I'm convinced that we should be looking at alternative funding sources (if they aren't already) that would be used to create unique passenger experiences. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to change a vital gateway to the city and it would suck to have DTW West here instead of something as inspiring as the original domes.

FWIW, I know it's entirely anecdotal but I was at T1 a couple of Saturdays ago in the morning [EDIT: it was actually more mid-day, 11am until roughly 2:30 pm] for a project. Over the course of my roughly 3 and 1/2 hours there, I never saw more than two or three people in line at the C concourse TSA gate, and more than once it was completely empty. Maybe Saturdays are just slow for some reason?
The airport traffic as a whole is doing fine, as well as can be expected. But I can absolutely see how someone would think it's not if they've recently flown out of the C gates on a Saturday morning.

Saturday is the slowest day of the week by quite a bit. This time of year maybe 20%ish less. So yes it definitely wouldn’t have been very slow then just after all the morning outbounds. Spring break and summer the drop off is less.rbb wrote: ↑3:29 PM - Jan 19FWIW, I know it's entirely anecdotal but I was at T1 a couple of Saturdays ago in the morning [EDIT: it was actually more mid-day, 11am until roughly 2:30 pm] for a project. Chicago is looking at naming rights. I wouldn’t be shocked if they don’t at least look into it here. Seems like when you are building something new it makes it the easiest to do it.pdm_ad wrote: ↑3:13 PM - Jan 19Also, I'm convinced that we should be looking at alternative funding sources (if they aren't already) that would be used to create unique passenger experiences.
