Bosnia is a win away on Tuesday vs Austria from a spot, possible candidate for home base here. Austria is a heavy favorite at home but worse case Bosnia has made it ot the playoff for the final 4 UEFA spots.

Maybe that will bring some well needed attention to promoting gravois and bevo as a Bosnian cultural destination and some local orgs/city taking a part in increasing the attention to that area for such purpose. The Hill has shown that dedication to such cultural heritage can have real regional and national draw, and a Bosnian neighborhood celebrated as such would be more unique. Let’s see the investment in streetscaping, art and small business to promote what is a very special part of our city and history
I personally hope KC gets at least a lower demand matchup or two (Curacao, Haiti) vs New Zealand or something, not sure if that matchup will even be possible with the way the pots are set up. I'd like to go to a game but don't feel like paying crazy prices it will cost for top teams.dweebe wrote: ↑Nov 19, 2025I wonder what lucky US city will get Scotland in their group?
KC will not be getting England in games or in base camp.
Honestly a pretty lackluster group for KC. I think Argentina will go to Dallas or Southern California. Germany could be a great STL base camp.

It would be hilarious if these are the teams for the 4 games in KC.
Ecuador
Algeria
Ivory Coast
Tunisia
Curacao
Jordan

I didn’t know Kansas City was the soccer capital of the world

KC also has later stage games in the Round of 32 and the quarter finals

I’d be fine with this because it’s clear to me that KC isn’t ready for a massive stage. They’ve blown this entire World Cup planning process. It’ll be very lackluster and is more fitting for the small/lesser known teamsdbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Dec 05, 2025It would be hilarious if these are the teams for the 4 games in KC.

Transportation plans are only just now being introduced after being talked about for a long time. Fan zone, or whatever it’s called, at Liberty Memorial was always expected, but other locations (like Barney Allis Plaza and the South Loop Park) quietly faded away because neither will be done in time. At face value, I see it as a blown opportunity
They have to get 3 of the teams in group JdbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Dec 05, 2025It would be hilarious if these are the teams for the 4 games in KC.

One they will get twice one they won’t get at all so at the very least Austria has to be added to that list
I’d like to see them het a couple big games because maybe we get some spillover. But I also want them to have a couple not high demand games because I wouldn’t mind going to a game but don’t want to pay Messi prices.
First games for KC set. Terrible draw compared to other host cities IMO. They better hope they get Messi v Ronaldo.

Algeria could be an interesting base in STL. Three one-stop options to Algiers (ALG).
A REALLY interesting factoid. STL is the only place in the continent that you can walk between two base camps. All other cities with more than one basecamp are spread out.
- Air Canada: ALG-YUL-STL
- British Airways: ALG-LHR-STL
- Lufthansa: ALG-FRA-STL

You'd have thought the Hunts would have been rewarded with something better given then support for US soccer and the current administration. But I guess they didn't supply enough hookers, coke and briefcases of cash to FIFA.

Also, there is no guarantee that any team or teams will select STL as a base camp. City SC was in DC yesterday to talk to reps from teams.
The Guardian confirming England’s preferred home base is Kansas City which is now at risk with the Netherlands given higher priority selection.
Will any US city make any money hosting this World Cup? This is sounding more like a fiasco day by day.

Same thing you hear about hosting any other major one off event (Super Bowl, Olympics, National Convention, etc).courtland wrote:Will any US city make any money hosting this World Cup? This is sounding more like a fiasco day by day.

Either one of those would be good. I am a bit surprised England would not choose an east coast location anyway, I think all their games are east coast.ldai_phs wrote: ↑Dec 12, 2025The Guardian confirming England’s preferred home base is Kansas City which is now at risk with the Netherlands given higher priority selection.
Hard to imagine the World Cup in this worsening political environment. Trump's rhetoric towards Denmark (Greenland), Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, and Venezuela is bringing national security to a place unseen in 50 years.

I think a lot of tickets will be unsold as many internationals won’t come.
