People really do not realize how impactful the business sector is on the health of a city. There's little the city can do to better itself or grow when the business sector is actively working against the city in question.JaneJacobsGhost wrote: ↑Jun 25, 2025Well Chicago’s business community didn’t bail on its downtown in the name of being very very racist

Agree with the significance of having full buy-in from the Business Community. I don't believe our community bailed entirely from being "very, very racist", though that may have been a part of it. St. Louis really went all-in on urban renewal and anti-urban growth in a manner unmatched across the country for older, denser cities. What we were experimenting with wasn't bringing a rebound to the urban core, we doubled down, and these companies went into fight-or-flight mode...and left to the outer-belt. And, as now, the city was unable to provide a even the most basic services at a high LOS and cost.
Either way, I feel like many more people now realize that the strength of your downtown or core municipality really is crucial to not only a strong region but attracting top talent. I hope we continue to see re-investment and course-correct.

May have been a part of it? It’s still going on.
White people cant pack their bags fast enough to move out of Florissant and Hazelwood right now. St. Charles’ growth itself is just 4 decades of north county white people fleeing their black neighbors.

People are free to move wherever they wish. It’s not a sin nor a crime. It’s common everywhere. Naperville has 100,000 people because originally Southsiders fled that schitthole.

No one called it a sin or a crime. I have lots of extended family that has continued to move further out from the City, then North County, and now to St Charles.whitherSTL wrote:People are free to move wherever they wish. They honestly hate living out there. They lament the lack of diversity, boringness, and distance from the core of the city. Ultimately they feel they have no choice due to housing costs and school options for their kids.

I’m no fan of St. Chuck but if it’s so hateful why is it one of the fastest growing counties in the Midwest?Debaliviere91 wrote: ↑Jun 26, 2025No one called it a sin or a crime. I mean that comment doesn’t make any sense. It can be “hateful” and still be growing fast.whitherSTL wrote:I’m no fan of St. Chuck but if it’s so hateful why is it one of the fastest growing counties in the Midwest?Debaliviere91 wrote: ↑Jun 26, 2025No one called it a sin or a crime. Of all people, I would have thought witherSTL would have been opposed to government subsidized Soveit style developments.whitherSTL wrote: ↑Jun 26, 2025I’m no fan of St. Chuck but if it’s so hateful why is it one of the fastest growing counties in the Midwest?Debaliviere91 wrote: ↑Jun 26, 2025No one called it a sin or a crime. It's also not growing. It's just people relocating from elsewhere in St. Louis. Meaning it's actually just a leech that wouldn't survive without St. Louis.

This is a good article to start your education process on the topic of why the most catered to and subsidized American lifestyle is the "fastest growing", it also explains why countries that do not subsidize this lifestyle don't have hellscape style suburbs destroying their countries.

More proof that the switch to BRT from LRT won't get funded either. The MAGAs just want to eliminate the FTA. The better move would have been to let the Metrolink funds continue to accumulate and resubmit when we have a more transit friendly administration, which could possibly be in 3 years.Auggie wrote: ↑Oct 03, 2025https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/t ... s/3833137/

Well they are going to continue accumulating. I personally don't see anything happening quickly, this is Bi-State we are talking about after all.
Went to Chicago a couple weeks ago for a day trip and to see my Saints chase a high draft pick. Met a buddy who drove in from Indianapolis.
I really would like to give Chicago a good review, but the number of abandoned cars parked out of the way in the parking garage! Almost ruined my entire trip until I realized how stupid it would be to actually spend brain power and time complaining about something as stupid as cars parked in an underused garage.
So Chicago gets a passing grade, because they're smart enough to realize it's stupid to waste the city's resources on non issues being made up by non-residents.

I agree ! The internet is full of unnecessary posts and comments but this one...? You judge in totality one of the largest most complex cities in North America by your experience in a parking garage and abandoned vehicles? This is my opinion of the submitter of that post: https://youtu.be/_R7q7LGE_lk?si=nMcBS9SmhcsOMR0B
LOL
LOL
Well, you see, Auggie thinks he's being clever, taking a dig at another Forum member who complained about cars being dumped in a Downtown STL garage. Really he'd just wasting energy.
I would agree that posts about cars parked in parking garages are unnecessary. I'll do you one better, they're completely stupid. You're finally catching on!framer wrote: ↑Nov 04, 2025^Completely unnecessary post of the week (maybe month).
CHICAGO MENTIONED!
The greatest city in the world is just 5 hours from STL. That’s STLs best asset.
Abandoned cars and all!
jk jk. Hello from my favorite place. I’m in one of these grainy pics.

How’s Michigan Avenue doing? I saw a social media post the other day saying shops and restaurants are returning to it giving signals of a comeback after a rough few years. Hopefully that’s the case. I haven’t been to Chicago in 6 years and that was at Christmas time.
It was very busy when I walked on it for a couple blocks.Chris Stritzel wrote: ↑Nov 05, 2025How’s Michigan Avenue doing? Much better than it was 2022-2023. A weekend feels comparable to pre-pandemic. A lot of the “missing” stores have just moved to different parts of the Loop.Chris Stritzel wrote:How’s Michigan Avenue doing? I respectfully disagree. Overall the street and pedestrian traffic is better. But I think part of that was people vacationed closer to home. But from a retail and just "buzz" point of view it still feels pretty sad. We're back in Chicago every usually once every quarter and to me it feels like there are two closures then only one opening to fill.addxb2 wrote: ↑Nov 05, 2025Much better than it was 2022-2023. The most telling was the recent closure of the big Under Armor store at Michigan and Illinois.
