So Googling it was work for you but easy peasy for the person asking for information? This is a forum where we come looking for information, I guess every time you post an article link in here I should reply that no one asked you to Google that for us.
Chill. It is a meme.PeterXCV wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025So Googling it was work for you but easy peasy for the person asking for information? Air France was also floated as a "should" be possible airline to land.
Still cannot get over that Indianapolis gave Aer Lingus $17M in incentives while we got Frankfurt and London for like a little more than $10M.
That's the vexing part of this phenomenon that I find fascinating. It was easy to look up The time it took to write the post on here was equal to doing the search on google. It's the first link. They could get the answer quickly themselves and not wait and be beholden to someone else.

Nah Quin thinks we're a bunch of idiots, this is far from the first time I've seen him post like this, and without the meme I might add.jeff707 wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025Chill. I wasn't the one asking for others to do work for me that they could easily do themselves.
$1.5M/year is super low for this kind of thing. Kinda shocked it's so low. For Indy, that $17M had to be spread out over many years, yes. sh*t, even if it's at 4 years, that's $4M/per. lot.Auggie wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025Air France was also floated as a "should" be possible airline to land.NHampton wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025$4.5 mil for BA from Port Authority for three years if (unstated) metrics are met, per the Post. Good deal.

To be fair, the link provided didn’t actually answer my question but yeah also not offended by the response. Appreciate Quincunx’s presence here.

Not sure if anyone picked up on this but it’s a seasonal flight April to end of Oct

Being seasonal, is it safe to assume this flight is for tourists vs. business people?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025Not sure if anyone picked up on this but it’s a seasonal flight April to end of Oct
The Aer Lingus subsidy was $17M/2 years, so $8.5M per year.soulardx wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025$1.5M/year is super low for this kind of thing. Kinda shocked it's so low. It is for three years - however, I have talked to a friend at the WTCSTL and the airline has not released their schedule or any flights past October 1 in 2026. She said that the airline plans it to be regular service and thus has not said it is "seasonal" as BA has not released their flight schedule after. To secure the 4.5 mil incentive, she said it needed to serve STL at least "four times weekly with an extended schedule year round". So, I wouldn't say it is "seasonal" as the airline hasn't released any air schedule past October 2026.
Also, 4.5 mil 3 years is nothing. BA wanted to add STL for awhile and with Lufthansa's success, this low amount evident that the incentives were not the focus for the airline.

Probably the most enjoyable time to go. I went at the end of May into June in 2022 and the weather was nice.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025Not sure if anyone picked up on this but it’s a seasonal flight April to end of Oct
but also a good jumping off point for the rest of Europe (beaches or skiing) the rest of the year, even if February in London isn't the most appealing.
So, huge question here - anyone want to summarize (absent snark or excessive editorializing) why we ever considered privatizing the airport?
For the average STL business and leisure traveler, what would have been gained/lost?
For the average STL city resident, what would have been gained/lost?
I have my own POV of course but am hoping so revisit that episode a bit.

People who argue in favor of privatization would say that private ownership would run the airport better in general and the city would see an influx of cash that could then be spent on infrastructure, paying off debt, and be used to generate more long term revenue.soulardx wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025So, huge question here - anyone want to summarize (absent snark or excessive editorializing) why we ever considered privatizing the airport?

“Flights will begin on 19 April 2026 and operate four times per week throughout the summer season.”
That’s what BA said its press release from above. So it may be true that to get the full $1.5m a year they need to run year round but it appears that they’ve chosen not to do that at least for now

Auggie, thank you for engaging with the question. Truly. but, I want more!! LOL. that's the argument i heard as well, but I don't recall any real analysis that showed the benefit. It was just hand wavy bullsh*t.Auggie wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025People who argue in favor of privatization would say that private ownership would run the airport better in general and the city would see an influx of cash that could then be spent on infrastructure, paying off debt, and be used to generate more long term revenue.soulardx wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025So, huge question here - anyone want to summarize (absent snark or excessive editorializing) why we ever considered privatizing the airport?

^^ Or maybe it's 4 flights per week during summer with lesser frequency during winter? Hard to know based upon that statement.
I'm not educated enough on the specifics to give a very good answer beyond what I saidsoulardx wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025Auggie, thank you for engaging with the question. Truly. but, I want more!! I don't think it got far enough to do any analysis. The effort had the top-down lobbyist-driven King Rex stink on it.soulardx wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025Auggie, thank you for engaging with the question. Here's the thread on it. Maybe there's some gems in there we've forgotten.

thank you. I suppose this only reiterates how little analysis was ever provided on the ROI to privatization. FWIW - I think Rhonda is doing a superb job.quincunx wrote: ↑Oct 01, 2025I don't think it got far enough to do any analysis.
