I have a question for those more familiar with the airport/airline world:

While we see Southwest cutting service from Lambert to cities like Des Moines, Little Rock, OKC, Tulsa, etc as a bad thing, how do those cities see it? I would naturally think that they would also see it as bad to lose a connection to a larger airport like Lambert, but at the same time, they still have flights to even larger airports than Lambert, so do they not see it as big of a negative as we do? Or do they still see it as pretty bad? I don't know, just wondering from those more educated.

^IIRC, Southwest said part of this was a revamp of how they are routing flights to "hub" airports. Specifically, that some of those flights (e.g., Des Moines) are being rerouted to Chicago Midway as an East-West connection, while STL was to be more focused on North-South traffic. Some routes are just being cut.

Interesting that the organizations behind this are STL Partnership and the World Trade Center, along with the Port Authority. Doesn’t look like Greater STL is involved for this one.

Lived here a long time and been paying attention to economic development (on this very board!) for a long time but I can't tell you what any of those organizations do and how their mission differs.  I imagine being the head of the orgs is a plum role tho!

I know WTC St. Louis always seems to be involved in international relations and developments with St. Louis, like foreign dignatries visiting, etc. No clue what STL Partnership is.

STL partnership is a city-county economic development agency, it used to be split

The St. Louis Economic Development Partnership (STL Partnership) is a comprehensive economic development organization serving St. Louis City and County, which attracts, retains, and facilitates growth of businesses and works collaboratively with public and private partners on regional projects.

Wondering if any incentives (other than the airport on landing fees etc) are even offered. The reason why I say that is with Lufthansa's success and their load factors (and aircraft shortage to only add 5 days Summer 2026 and rest of the year at 3 days) - British Airways sees the opportunity and is seizing it.  In addition, STL LH passengers are highly favoring connections to SE. and E EU, India and Israel.  British has an opportunity to capitalize on tourism to/from London, Ireland and points in W. EU. I am sure they will fly the opposite days of LH (maybe?) filling in Monday/Tuesday/Thursday and Saturday ???

We will see.

it’s nice that we’re getting some wins for a change & hope this a sign for things to come

They seem more upset that Kansas City can't attract flights like this than anything. Maybe realization is setting in.

We did get called the most racist place outside of rural Czechia, however.

^ As much as I hate it, the Northland will be the fastest growing suburb in the state in the next 10 years. Will rival Overland Park for premier suburb location at the end of that time. So Missouri side of the metro should see dramatic increase and hopefully influence at the state level. Of course, that likely means a more conservative leadership at the city level. Hopefully, the evening out of our wobbly tilted suburbs around downtown should benefit the core and provide more business development in it. St Louis has nowhere to go. Their suburbs are spread to a maximum level on the Missouri side and no one wants to jump the river to Illinois. My biggest issue with St Louis is they don’t care about their core at all. So many amazing Victorians and they let them rot. Of course, St Louis people are about the most racist and classist I’ve ever met anywhere, bar rural Czechia. They’ll surrender Forest Park and move to Wentzville before they’d live next to a black person. I don’t see it ever changing and will mean it’s demise eventually

Question, does anyone know if the international gates be located centrally in the new single concourse terminal, or say closest to the new single point security access point, and or at the ends?  Probably not on the radar yet or even if a preliminary design has been floated to airport.

 I think it is a great impression coming through Security and seeing a wall of glass & larger planes w the international destinations on the other side.  Plus, it seems easier to design customs/immigration as maybe port of a two floor single entry access point.     At same time, it seems to make sense logistically to put larger planes at the end of the terminal

They are central in all the drawings so far. I imagine they stay there.

It's a fantasy, but it's a very pleasant one.

Let me add BA to my schedule. So far it's just a 1992 TWA schedule with modern AA aircraft grafted onto a contemporary schedule without the contemporary AA routes and with a few other routes that probably wouldn't be there if AA had kept the hub. Anyway, bravo BA, and bravo Lambert administrators. Job well done. I'm looking forward to taking that BA flight next time I fly to the UK. Might have to look at flying through London on the way to Ho Chi Minh next time. (We're already booked for February 2026, but in 2027  . . .)
