Throw in the old Toyota dealership space to the North too and this area could get fairly urban fairly fast if developed properly

^For starters, let's hope a better version of this comes back to that South Kingshighway lot

We are in the early stages of adding a cycle track to replace the painted lanes on Christy, but it terminates as the street merges with Kingshighway. Hopefully when (if) this is redeveloped they can extend it through the center of the lots and be integrated into future developments

I had a doctor in that building when I was a lad. My family used to frequent a restaurant there also. Then in the 70s/80s there was a head shop (part of the Headquarters chain).

I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the interiors.
^^Framer, what was the restaurant? Lumms? I remember a cafeteria or diner kind of deal, but I don't know that we ever ate there. I always wanted to, but my family ate out so infrequently. (And my wife cooks like a house on fire, so . . . I still don't eat out much.)
^I don't remember the name, but it was definitely a cafeteria. My dad didn't cook, so whenever my mom would have a headache, he'd load the kids into the car and take us there. It was great as a kid to be able to choose your own food.

^It does, doesn't it? Very nice looking space. Well done to Garcia and company.
This isn't exactly Chippewa and Kingshighway, but just up the street at Chippewa and Brannon, BWell Pharmacy (5201 Chippewa) has abruptly closed with no warning or explanation given.

They always had the sketchiest looking people just hanging outside that pharmacy.Auggie wrote:This isn't exactly Chippewa and Kingshighway, but just up the street at Chippewa and Brannon, BWell Pharmacy (5201 Chippewa) has abruptly closed with no warning or explanation given.

The old Toyota dealership at Kingshighway and Beck Ave is now "Parking for Bud's Pizza".

They get a lot of hate from my fellow lefty friends for being gentrifiers or whatever, but I shudder to think what the state of this intersection would be without them
If the left put as much effort into issues like housing construction and transit expansion as they put into virtue signalling about racism and police, they'd win more elections and our cities would all be a hell of a lot nicer.
I realize the Garcias have done some good work revitalizing South Kingshighway but the fact remains that they made big bucks wiping out hundreds of housing units in Tower Grove South. One block of Wyoming lost 20 units in the last 15 years. I know they're not the only developer to do so but they were in the lead converting four family flats into 2 and sometimes just one huge home. This de-densified the area and kicked out a lot of renters, some of whom I'm sure had been longterm residents.

Their most recent multifamily rehab on Kingshighway was fantastic though. I’m fine with the conversions if we are also making it easy to build multifamilys on vacant parcels. Make sure our historic housing stock is preserved (if it takes SFH conversions sure) and utilize large vacant parcels for mixed use housing. Dutchtown and Gravois Park will probably be the next historic housing neighborhoods largely converted to SFH.
Leverage parcels along Jefferson, Gravois, Grand, Kingshighway N-S for multi family’s conversions and new builds - the access to transit, larger buildings and land footprints make sense for this. The problem is we aren’t doing much of any of that, only the intraneighborhood SFH rehabs and infill
