I only care that our leadership is either lying, or incompetent. Neither are good looks.
I agree they have done and continue doing a terrible job. What I'm trying to figure out is their reasoning. I don't buy the explanation of they will hit mirrors if they go into neighborhoods because they used to plow my street then decided to do only the bigger roads and now only did one road.

Is it that they don't want to spend money on snow because people can deal with it for a few weeks of the year? Do we just not have any sprayers? Did we not buy the chemicals? What is the actual state of our equipment and number of people in the (streets?) department?

I probably won't vote for Jones but think Spencer ran on a similar platform. I want someone to run to fix core city services and infrastructure and not try to solve macro national issues.

If I want to be completely fair, the County and MoDOT also failed at snow removal. I don’t think it was a budget issue. Might be more method related. That said, it was odd that MoDOT had bigger issues around STL than either IDOT on the Metro East side or the other divisions of MoDOT. Make of that what you will.

The trash pickup situation will surpass the icey streets situation as the the biggest concern to come out of the recent snowfall. It's at crisis level and escalating rapidly. Will take weeks perhaps a month to fully cleanup.

Yeah, looking down the alleys yesterday it was rough, especially behind mid and high rises. They are getting our alley dumpsters emptied as I type. Finally!

Dint worry. Auggie and Jane Jacobs Ghost will show up to tell us only "carbrained" anti urbanists care about trash service.

Real urbanists will reward Jones with an overwhelming victory because falling on your ass while dropping garbage into an overfilled dumpster is an urban experience like no other. Four more years!!

The Soulard CID and Special Business District paid for our side streets to be salted today.

Being a pedestrian in one of the most pedestrian friendly nabes of the city has been almost impossible when you have to cross a street that's a skating rink.

Are all the side streets hunky dory now? I hope something is done about sidewalks and bus stops.

My street is still a mess. I helped a neighbor get out of her parking spot this morning. She was spinning in place. I'm not sure how good her tires are, but she had some kitty litter with her, and I helped make a path in front of her tires so she could get some traction.

My street and alley in Kingshighway Hills are awful. All the melting and refreezing has made them a flat sheet of ice. I've done my part and shoveled in front of my property and behind my garage, but hardly any of my neighbors picked up a shovel. I can't walk anywhere. I can only go one way in and out of my alley, downhill, and I take it 5 MPH. All the dumpsters are spilling over. I have hardly left my house in two weeks. I'm getting major cabin fever, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. And since this is preventing so many people from going out and spending money, this has to be terrible for the local economy.

Yeah, mine's still a mess too. And the alley is worse. The dumpster isn't overflowing yet, though. Thank all that breathes.

Saw someone put kitty litter under their back ties on a front wheel drive car the other day. Safe to say half the people who are stuck are actually just stupid.

Sidewalks are the responsibility of the property
owner next to them

If you voted for Slay after 2001 = Stupid

If you genuinely think firing the most successful mayor in decades who has done nearly everything she's been asked to do (crime reduction, urbanist policies, forward thinking economic programs such as the UBI program, managing to keep the city fiscally stable) and managed to actually GROW the city's economy even more than Krewson did (and in a shorter time), then you are also stupid.

Reality is that if she was a white male, like Slay, she would be celebrated as this great mayor who's helped to improve STL and getting it on the up and up. You'd see all kinds of articles about job growth and GDP growth, and how impressive the crime reduction is. And most of all, you wouldn't have the incredibly strong southwest city opposition that Jones currently has. Nor would you have the density of maggots on STL Twitter searching for things to b**** about, at least not nearly as much as you do now.

Man there are some brutal new potholes out there from all of this. How long does it typically take for MODOT/County/City to address after heavy plowing?

When an ambulance can't get down an ice packed street and first responders have to walk (or skate) to get to the caller?

Not good.

The city isn’t doing any more urbanism than it did under Slay or Krewson. Also streets downtown still had tons of ice on them when even most of the STL suburbs are clear now.

Urbanism would be shovels hitting the ground and a massive revival of Washington Avenue and Downtown West. Being downtown for the Louligan AGM at Schlafly Tap House and seeing a bunch of downtown streets like the ones in front of Energizer Park being still icy messes doesn’t compute with urbanism. What I’m seeing in action isn’t urbanism. It’s simply the continuation of the same old neoliberal song and dance.

We need actual progressive policies here and not just the same old.

I never would of thought that a snowstorm more than 2 weeks in the past will have the potential to be very consequential but this may in fact put the nail in the coffin for some candidates who are seeking re-election. Let’s hope if & when the next big snowstorm comes the city will be far better prepared.

I lost a tire and also ended up with a bent wheel. I emailed St. Louis County (Hanley Road), and they patched the pothole quickly. But, I'm still out several hundred dollars, and much more if I end up having to replace the wheel.

The idea that Slay is the same as Jones is just laughable.
