Was looking at the Expo project in the new imagery and put this together really quick.  Approximately 720 new units across five buildings along Pershing Avenue in DeBaliviere Place over the last several years.  The furthest of those buildings being only about 0.4 miles from the Forest Park-DeBaliviere MetroLink station.

An additional 82 units opened as part of the Central West End City Apartments just south of Pershing a little more than a year prior to the upper image.  That would take the count up to about 800 units.

^That is a complete and utter transformation. It's sort of mind boggling, even if you've been watching it happen. Try turning the corner off DeBaliviere onto Pershing. Or vice versa. It's lovely to behold.

The number of new white roofs is interesting to see. I wonder how many black to white roof conversions it takes to cool a city 1 degree in the summer?

^I've seen some discussion of lighter paving colors for the same reason. Though I think a good tree canopy works even better. (Since it doesn't also create glare.)

Can confirm. Tree canopy will keep the ground cooler on average 5-15 degrees cooler. Cooler ground=cooler pavement=cooler city.

The percentage of TPO covered flat roofs correlates 100% with how gentrified the neighborhood is

It's crazy how often we get updated while Cleveland is still sitting on imagery from 2014...

^ Which is interesting considering much of their city seems to be updated as of 11/21 on the desktop app.  Oddly enough the current images on the web version for St. Louis don't appear in the desktop app.

Here's a 2016-2022 comparison for Forest Park Southeast.  Since 2016 I count roughly 1,360 completed or currently under construction residential units.  An additional 226 have been proposed in the last several months.  I didn't mark them, but I counted roughly 70 or so new infill homes as well.  Also added some office/institutional projects.  Didn't add proposals like the wedge lot or Narwhal's since those have been quiet for sometime.  And of course, it's likely the LUX project will die out eventually.

Slightly veering off topic now but WUMCRC has a (nearly) monthly development tracker for FPSE that can help visualize and detail completed/planned projects in the neighborhood - https://wumcrc.com/cat_doc/forest-park-southeast/

I wonder if it has anything to do with the USGIS office.

The Google maps iOS app has updated satellite images for St. Louis to sometime from last summer. I always think it looks better when the aerial shots are in the summer and everything looks green so I’m happy about it

Hmm...weird. I checked across Chrome, Edge, my Galaxy phone and the maps desktop app..nothing remotely close to this update. What device did this map view update on for you?

Google Earth on my MacBook.  It's not accessible from your browser.  You have to download Earth.

New imagery! Looks like late summer 2023. Notable additions include finished City Park, Top Golf/Steelcote area, NGA finishing up, and more!

New imagery on Google Earth from February 13 covers most of the city limits and Illinois side.  However, this does not show up in regular Google Maps.

Google Maps is a mess, sometimes. I had to report several times because the marker was not on the correct address when looking up address in the city.

Just realized Apple Maps 3D imagery has been updated to be somewhat recent. The practice fields across from CityPark are still under construction, so not great, but it's a lot more recent than what was on there previously last I checked. I was starting to wonder if they had just given up on it. The 3D imagery itself is really nice and polished though.

Google Earth took satellite images of north St. Louis immediately following the tornado. You can clearly see the path dotted with bright blue tarps.

You do have to go to the “Historical Imagery” which will generate a newer version than the current default.
