Yep... STLians think this is only happening here. This is a national problem across the country (especially after Covid). Seattle, Portland Oregon are horrible right now. Their downtowns are boarded up and the homeless and crime problems plague those cities far worse than STL.

Agreed. My employer (who is moving employees out of downtown St. Louis) is also moving some out of downtown Portland. In today's chutzpah department, developers are hoping to force a 50-story tower into a low-rise neighborhood. According to the developer, " The City will need to approve the project, and they know it. The proposed project at 2700 Sloat is 100% Code compliant (both city and state), including the base density calculation." Should be interesting.

I actually thought that, but it sure seems legit. Someone put an awful lot of work into schematics etc.
They're not building that thing for $190,000 per unit. Construction costs in San Francisco are generally above $400/sf. All-in this thing would cost at least three times more than the $134 million stated in the article.
