Plan for 280 apartments, 125 hotel rooms, 600+ parking spaces on the land immediately east of the Hampton Inn is up for review at the City Council on April 4th after passing the planning commission last month. Hoefer Welker of Kansas City is the architect.

This massive wall looks ridiculous.

1406-1410 South 5th Street. Next door to the new Hampton Inn and near Ameristar.

I don’t hate it…not a bad looking building coming off the Blanchette…for St. Charles.

Some additional renderings with phase 2 included. Looks like phase 2 could be the 2nd tallest building in St. Charles if it gets built.

Interesting that KMOV got those renderings. They must've been sent to KMOV. I doubt a 20-story high-rise would be approved by St. Charles despite Ameristar being 24/25. The plan approved the other night is for the shorter development. I imagine phase 2 will be applied for at a later date.

I think it would be kind of cool to see St. Charles grow a little skyline.

Why wouldn't they approve it? If they're trying to develop an urban zone, I see little push back to it.

Anyway, what would it take the city of St. Louis to get some kind of development like this on the North Riverfront. It's insane how underdeveloped Laclede's Landing is.

All they need now is a Metrolink connection to the airport and they'd be pretty legit.

My reasoning comes down to the fact that it's 20-stories. We might see nothing wrong with, and maybe they don't either. But Ameristar already looks out of place. Adding another equally tall building in an area of short 2-3-story buildings might seem odd and lopsided. I'd approve it, but I think St. Charles will have reservations about it. With KMOV being the only media outlet to have renderings of the plan with the high-rise, public commentary on the matter has been extremely limited.

For the North Riverfront to get something like this, a redevelopment of the area needs to to occur and demand needs to be identified. I feel that Laclede's Landing will eventually get a "high-rise" plan, but not for the foreseeable future. The neighborhood(s) need to develop, show demand, and need to get the rents necessary to justify a high-rise.

Well, it sure is now.

I had heard those charges were coming for Lux Living for so long that I began to think they may never come.
