It appears the 14 day cruise is sold out for this year and next year. 2024 is the earliest. Pricing starts at 13k.

The 7 days that either start or end here are sold out this year.

Impressive. Those prices seems expensive but I’ve never really looked into river cruises so maybe that’s just the going rate.

^That's quite a bit higher than American Heritage's 11 day itinerary from New Orleans to St. Louis. The most expensive suite on the boat appears to be $10,220 per person. (And they appear to have space available right now. At a discount, no less. $9720 in the same suite for a departure from New Orleans on the 27th.) I wonder if Viking is banking on their loyalty program.

Did the Viking Mississippi River boat make it to St Louis yet? Anyone get a photo?

The Viking Mississippi made an appearance yesterday. It departed right after sunset, heading north. It's certainly a very grand sight on the riverfront! It was cool to see people's reactions to it too. People were all standing along the top of the stairs at the Arch pointing and taking photos. It's so big it makes Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher look like mere bath toys. It makes quite an impression and is certainly an eventful spectacle. In my longer video here, you can see, (albeit not the highest quality vid..), the new Viking Mississippi pass underneath the Eads Bridge and see it pass the Becky Thatcher, which was making its way southwards on the river.

Where did it dock?  (Presuming it docked and allowed people to disembark)

The same location you'd see the Queen dock, which is south of the Becky Thatcher and Tom Sawyer. Roughly near the south Arch grounds staircase.

I wish the city had a better dock. This reminds of the infamous bus stop that used to be at Lindbergh and Olive.

Wow!  I did not expect to see that boat pulled up that close to the levee.  That's an incredibly low draft.  I expected them to use the barge type dock that the Betty Thatcher uses.  We really need a nice new dock facility to welcome these boats and create a worthy welcome mat to St. Louis.

Maybe next time they show up there’ll be more trash, debris and flotsam…

…I mean less.

Uffda!

^Yeah, the levee looks awful. It really needs some serious TLC.

Would be nice if there was an actual dock for them to use.

Actually this how the river boats always landed as they went up and down the Big Muddy simply because the river always changed, it was efficient and it worked.   So I really don't see that being a concern.

That being said, doing something to fix up the old cobblestones around the actually landing spot, organizing and keeping the area free of debris & trash would go a long, long way.  In other words, embrace the chaos of a river landing but at least put some pride into it.   Plus, a dock is an expansive endeavor that would get limited use..

Is this price for real?  I think it's a two week cruise!

" In April 2020, the Eagan couple paid $18,800 to reserve a luxury cruise from St. Paul to New Orleans,"

^The perspective makes the thing look about the size of the Becky Thatcher. I know it's bigger, (by about two full decks, I think) but . . . wow does it look small from that angle. Anyway, glad to see it finally on the water and I wish them every success.

I realize it is a functional river, and one that varies a lot in depth, but I wish we could arrange a better docking situation, one that is easier on the eyes.  It looks so industrial.

Yeah, it does look dinky from up there but I was too lazy to ride down and back up! Next time I'll go down there and shoot a photo from the cobblestones :)
