Was that a test to see if we'd catch SF being flipped?
Sort of.  I was just pointing out that they would take more care with other cities where a flip is obvious and they might get hate mail.  For us it's more like, OK, who cares.  If they had included a bridge, it might have been more obvious.

Interesting . . . I didn't know that the CEO of Carnival, the world's largest cruise line, lives in St. Louis.

A government agency recently had to call me because they questioned my marriage.  On separate forms, my wife said were married in St. Louis, and I said we were married in Sunset Hills.

Good god, folks; it's all St. Louis. City/County consolidation can't come soon enough.

Wonder if they would expand their live music cruises to include artists/bands that hail from Mississippi River cities from MN to LA. I've got friends who've done these and had a great time. Here's just one example: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/outlaw-country-cruise-2020-lineup-mavericks-lucinda-williams-814403/

The possibilities are endless. I'd love to see these rolling down the river.

STL would be a great stop of the Civil War cruise as well.

This article is over a year old but it is a nice overview - Having Viking dropping off 200 tourists at the foot of the Arch about every 2 weeks will be cool

It would be nice if they had cruises only for Germans say all in German to entice Europeans the same way Viking has English only cruises in Europe.

My wife and I took Viking from Amsterdam to Basel up the Rhine a few years ago. The Rhine is a working river like the Mississippi, but they do a nice job of reversing the ugly industrial areas at night.

The upper Rhine has a lot of locks and dams they traverse at night, but they feature at least one on the trip to show everyone how the things work.

I gotta say the Mississippi doesn't hold a candle to the Rhine River Valley in terms of beauty. I'm not particularly well travelled but I would be hard pressed to think of anywhere I've been more scenic than that place. It weaves through forested mountains with similar vibe to the Ohio River Valley near Pittsburg, ancient castles are all over the place, and tiny walkable villages on the waterfront.

This doesn't really have anything to do with St. Louis, more just a love story torward that region. I need to get back there.

^ i don't know... i haven't traveled the length of either river but a quick google of "mississippi river valley" returns some pretty stunning images, including plenty of forests, bluffs, and hills. i suspect the landscape along the length of the miss is quite a bit more varied than that along the rhine.

100% agree. The Great River Road near Alton:

The problem is that the North Riverfront is still a complete utter mess and now that Mayor Jones is planning a homeless encampment I can't see how this will give a good impression. Whatever happened to the promised Casino ancillary development? With a Four Seasons hotel and the newly renovated national monument right there, there is no excuse for the riverfront to be such an embarrassment. It should be one of the most popular vacation spots in Middle America. As much as I'd hate to say it. I would love for the city to find a Cordish like developer to come and redevelop the entire riverfront. It's really a shame.

This is well north of the casino. 1st and Cass is much, much closer to the Stamping Lofts (low income housing) than the Four Seasons.

But if your whole thing is to sanitize the poor/homeless people away from the casino and the Landing…then I probably won’t be able to change your mind.

The city already gave Cordish too many incentives to build BPV, and even right next to Busch Stadium we haven't seen a full build out yet.  Zero chance Cordish or a Cordish like developer would be willing to redevelop the entire riverfront here without some insanely large subsidies and incentives. The last thing the city needs is a new silver bullet project.

If somebody can renovate the historic structures on the North Riverfront, particularly the cluster near Ashley Energy, I would be hard pressed to say no to any kind of incentive package. Once the historic structures are renovated and infrastructure is in place I think the areas in between get developed pretty quickly by STL standards.

The historic North Riverfront is the lynchpin for a vibrant Landing and gives some juice to developing the Bottle District.

Also does anybody know where these Viking Cruises plan to dock? These trips are EXPENSIVE. I would love to see them drop off at the old President Casino dock (retrofitted of course) it would be great to stimulate the Landing and give the geezers easy Casino and Hotel access.

Any definitive update on where these Viking cruise ships plan to dock?

The Viking Great Lakes cruises have started up and it looks like they picked a pretty horrible place to dock in Detroit. Very industrial/blighted and far from the downtown.

That's actually hilarious given how expensive the cruises are. Hopefully STL has somewhere better.
