SLU’s athletics department announced the addition of the O’Loughlin Family Champions Center during a news conference Tuesday afternoon. The 25,000-square-foot facility will be connected to Chaifetz Arena.

SLU described it as a “best-in-class facility” that will impact more than 400 student-athletes “by delivering programming related to academic advising, spiritual development, sports performance, nutrition, wellness and sports psychology.”

Agreed.  Though we shouldn't expect it to be a major new department or program if it's embedded within the Athletics department. Still, a good step in the right direction for SLU.

So I'm guessing this is on the northwest corner of the arena and the practice gym? Maybe take some of the parking lot?

Correct, in the current grass space just next to the parking lot.  Based on the rendering I'm assuming it'll be approximately this size:

Straight-up awesome. This'll definitely help SLU to recruit more and better athletes.

And hopefully get SLU into the Big East when it expands.

When they made the pre announcement I was wondering if this was a move to the Big East.

Hopefully this addition gets some attention from the conference power brokers.

It was pretty clear that many of the statements made in the press conference were directed at the Big East, which was great to see.

If schools like Creighton, Xavier and Butler can be in the Big East I don't see any reason why SLU can't.

SLU, Dayton, VCU, and St. Joe's are probably the top four candidates (not in that order), I would think.

They're at 11 teams now, so it would make sense for them to add three more.

They already have a team in Philly, so hopefully that would rule out St. Joe's.  And St. Louis is a larger media market than Dayton and Richmond, although both of those schools have had much more recent success than SLU.

W/r/t the center itself - any idea who the architect of record is here? Mackey Mitchell did Chaifetz - assuming they may be in the mix here as well?
