^ not buying the "prohibitively expensive" nonsense. it's a tiny church. they could use it as a chapel or parcel it off/build around it and sell it. they could easily recoup the space by adding a partial story or sacrificing a few parking spots. they've somehow managed to maintain two historic mansions in the CWE for years, so I'm calling BS.

The new Ronald McDonald house looks good, but I still wish they would work around the old church.

Hope this happens
Wish they'd move the church across the street and use it for something.

Is this picture just a small question mark for anyone else?

This should do the trick:

Here's the current view:

It'd be nice if they could save it. Maybe move it to the park across the street, which is kind of empty and sad. But I'm okay with them doing straight demo for this.

Dan, you haven't heard anything more about the Ronald McDonald project at neighborhood meetings? Just curious if they are waiting for project costs to go back down before they kick that off...

Is the church being demoed?

That appears to be the intention given the renderings. It's in a Preservation Review District so should go to CRO for review.

Demo of the church is on the preliminary agenda of the Preservation Board.

Unrelated (it appears), but the two houses just to the north are on the preservation board agenda for demo as well.

These MSD detention basins are really starting to bug me. They're spreading things out which defeats their purpose by adding more impervious surfaces to support more driving. Let's reallocate impervious surface now meant for cars to these instead of land that could have buildings on them adding residents/businesses/tax base. Putting them in the street means they could do double duty as traffic calming. Chouteau is 50 feet wide here. Also at least here there is 3 acres of parkland across the street to absorb water.

The Preservation Board voted 3-2 with one abstention to grant preliminary approval for the demolition of the church w/ condition that CRO reviews final materials and that a building permit be issued before demo.

Some neighbors and Ald Phil spoke against.

Man, that’s ***** stupid. Pardon my French. This is such an obvious improvement versus what’s there and pretty much unambiguously good for people.

Also, this has been in the works for so long. I cannot imagine being opposed to this. This is so strange that she would be opposed to this, even for her. It’s a non profit, doing social good in a pretty clear way, trying to replace a chemical warehouse and dilapidated, small church. I mean, this just seems to clear.
